Tony Harvey may have crane pictures to share

Noted bird photographer never leaves home without camera. Wife says he would be lost without it. Fortunately, he had his camera with him when he saw the cranes from Snake Creek Road, overlooking Green River Lake. Photos are yet to be processed to check for keepers
About: Billy Joe Fudge On Celias Law how to tell things KY 768

By Tony Harvey

I too have been witness to the great flocks of both Honkers and Garglers over the past few days.We now live on Snake Creek Road and right at the top of Snake Creek Hill which affords us of a wonderful view of beautiful Green River Lake.

Birds of all kinds abound here, most of which now are the kind that hang around for the winter: Carolina Wrens, Tufted Titmouse, Purple Finch, Red Breasted and White Breasted Nuthatches, along with several dozen Bluebirds, Bohemian Waxwings, as well many Dark-eyed Juncos or what most call them around here "Snowbirds."

A tip of the hat to Mr. Richard Phelps

About: Mr. Richard Phelps to portray Judge James Garnett

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:
I was thoroughly entertained and impressed by Richard Phelps' performance at the Cemetary Walk. The fact that Richard would resurrect Judge Garnett again for our enjoyment is most kind of him and a treat to the public.

If the public has not seen Richard in these roles, this is a fine opportunity to be entertained and educated at the same time.

I tip my hat to Richard, I know how much work and preparation goes into his portrayals.

Thanks again Richard,
s/Barry Jones

A few thoughts from Tim Allen

After the Adair County Band's trip to New York

This was one of the most awe-inspiring trips I have ever taken with the Adair County Band.

I knew there going to be millions of people watching on the streets of Manhattan, but I had no idea what that would really look like along the parade route.

Imagine one street block with people on both sides of the street 20 to 25 people deep, shoulder to shoulder. Now, multiply that by about 60 blocks (counting the turns), and you'll get an idea of the throng of people watching this parade. And that doesn't count the thousands hanging out of skyscraper windows along the route. The atmosphere was incredible.

The New York audience was very receptive and really enjoyed the Adair County Band. People were even coming out into the street saying things like "You guys are great!" or "That was awesome!"

These students got to see celebrities, floats, and giant balloons, up close and personal, march down the streets of New York City, and perform for a TV audience of over 50 million viewers. There are very few people in the world that can say that.

Our goal was to represent Columbia, Adair County, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky in as positive, professional way as possible. I think these young people succeeded in reaching that goal.

I could not be more proud of these fine young people.

I want to thank the City and County officials, the Adair County Board of Education, local businesses, media, and members of the community that helped make this trip a reality for these band members through your generous contributions.

The Adair County Band Boosters deserve a huge pat on the back for going the extra mile to make this happen for these kids. They sacrificed countless hours of their free time to help these kids reach their goal.Special thanks to current Adair County Band Director, Tom Case for allowing me to head up this special event. Thanks to our wonderful staff - Doug Neal, Rob Depp, and Rob Arnold for the extra effort you made to make this happen.

To all of the band students (past and present) and parents that went on the trip, thank you, from the bottom of my heart for making my last venture with the Adair County Band the most special of all.
I will never forget this.

(Nor will you)-Tim Allen

I have to agree with Mr. Fudge. You should not leave without your camera. I saw a flock of the Cranes in an open field on the way to church yesterday morning in Burkesville, KY. It would have made a beautiful picture as they were all on the ground. I am bad about forgetting the camera. s/Kay Haupt

Billy Joe Fudge: On Celia's Law, how to tell things, KY 768

  1. How to tell a goose; how to tell a crane
  2. Celia's Law of Photography always works: (Never leave home without your Kodak, children)
  3. Why KY 768 is even more important as a place to see things from

About: Celia's Law of Photography worked too well Saturday

By Billy Joe Fudge

Firstly, for Celia Downey's future encounters with UFOs she should remember that they can be readily identified by the sound rule which is "geese honk and cranes gargle."

Secondly, I do agree with Celia's Law of Photography and proved it both yesterday and today with an estimated 400 garglers about 20 feet overhead.

By J.D. and Ellen Zornes

The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Christmas Kettles Bell Ringing this past Wednesday at both IGA Food Store and Wal-Mart. Anita Riddle, Cody, Brian and Carley were the first ringers of the year.

Anita and her grandson, Brian, rang last year; this year Anita wanted all her grandchildren to ring the bell to help them better understand the meaning of helping others. Bank of Columbia employees began the bell ringing at Wal-Mart.

The Christmas Kettles are our major fundraising activity where community people have always been so gracious to participate...by ringing the bell and by dropping donations in the kettle. We need you once again!
