Court votes $3,200 for pagers for Knifley Volunteer Fire Department
Fiscal court voted unanimously to buy eight Motorola pagers for the Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department (KAVFD) after hearing a presentation from Gayla Baker, treasurer of the KAVFD at last night's Adair County Fiscal Court meeting.
Baker noted that the department serves an area which has poor cell phone service, and that the area the KAVFD serves one of the most sparsely populated area of the Adair County.
The vote came on a motion by Sixth District Magistrate Joe Rogers, in whose district the Knifley Fire Department is headquartered, and was seconded by Magistrate Danny Goodin (1), whose district is partially served by the KAVFD.
The cost of the pagers will be $3,200.
Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton announced that the county is working to secure a grant for a new roof at the Knifley fire station.
Accompanying Treasurer Baker to the meeting were KAVFD Assistant Chief Brett Farmer, KAVFD Board Vice Chairman Richie Gabehart, and KAVFD member Kim Farmer.

Diner News from Jamestown - Politicians And Fishermen . . .
This year will be a highly unusual season with both politicians and fisherman simultaneously criss-crossing the state.
by John E. Moss, posted from Jamestown, Russell County, KY
At the Manners diner on Monument Square, little has been said about the pilfering of Campaign signs last friday night. There seemed to be bigger and more important fish to fry. An unnamed local source, who used to be a judge, was talking about recently catching a fish. He said that one fish wasn't quite enough for his appetite and he was going to have to get up to at least a few two fish days. Generally, most gathered at the diner thought this was a good idea though it should be noted for the record that no one challenged the fish story itself.

Veteran Joe Hare echoes Walter Murley view on flags
About: Walter Murley: Some flags around Columbia, KY need attention
To ColumbiaMagazine.com:
Thanks to my fellow veteran, Walter Murley, for noticing and commenting on the shape of some of our local flags. He is correct, those places he named do have flags that need to be replaced or straightened out. I encourage anyone else who has a flag flying to check it out and bring it up to standards.
Below is a link to etiquette for our flag or you can just Google "American Flag Etiquette". There are several sites that will guide us all on the proper display and etiquette of the American Flag, including this one: www.usflag.org.

Adair geography lessons get deeper, with one on Hooterville
About: Tarter, Adair Co., KY finally located
To "Jim" via CM:
How about any latest news from Hooterville, Jim? I believe it was out Tarter way. I recall seeing it on a map. I believe there is a Hooterville Road still in use in Eastern Adair Co. Could Hooterville have a connection to Hoot Owl Hollow, which lies east of Gentry's Mill Road, south of Santo Road?
