Salvation Army Bell Ringers in Action; more volunteers needed Bell Ringers already in action with Christmas Kettles, raising money to help others. Volunteers are needed to come to next meeting, Tuesday morning, December 1, 2009, in the basement, Adair County Annexl, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY Click on headline for full story, photo By J.D. and Ellen Zornes The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Christmas Kettles Bell Ringing this past Wednesday at both IGA Food Store and Wal-Mart. Anita Riddle, Cody, Brian and Carley were the first ringers of the year. Anita and her grandson, Brian, rang last year; this year Anita wanted all her grandchildren to ring the bell to help them better understand the meaning of helping others. Bank of Columbia employees began the bell ringing at Wal-Mart. The Christmas Kettles are our major fundraising activity where community people have always been so gracious to participate...by ringing the bell and by dropping donations in the kettle. We need you once again! And, we are again this year having the red vs. blue competition. The Christmas Kettles, red and blue, will be located outside Wal-Mart this Christmas season. You can make a difference in the life of a neighbor when in need by simply dropping your donation in the familiar red...or blue...kettle. Or, just send your donation to: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1085, Columbia, KY 42728; be sure to designate whether it's 'red or blue.' Or, if you're not caught up in the 'color hype,' just drop your donation in either kettle or mail it without a designation. If your group, church, civic organization or an individual is interested in 'ringing the bell', please just contact Kelli Bonifer at (270) 384-2317 or Ellen Zornes at (270) 384-3400. The Salvation Army is a nationally recognized all volunteer Christian, nondenominational, charitable organization. Locally our focus is meeting the needs of our community through various programs such as House Fire Assistance, Natural Disaster Relief, Back to School Assistance, Summer Camp, Senior Angels, Christmas Angel Tree and Christmas Kettle Bell Ringing. The Adair County Unit meets the first Tuesday of each month at 9amCT in the basement of the Courthouse Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. If you are interested in becoming a vital part of our local unit, please join us at our next meeting or any monthly meeting. We would also like to say a very heartfelt "Thank You" to our community for your continued support of our ongoing programs. Without you, we couldn't make a difference!
