Casey County Grand Jury returns indictments Mon 11 July 2016

Indictments brought against six individuals from Yosemite, Liberty, Kings Mountain, and Science Hill, Kentucky, on charges including wanton endangerment, public intoxication, possession, DUI and receiving stolen property.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Indictments were returned against the following individuals on Monday, 11 July 2016:

Morris (Pompano) Beard, age 77, Taylor Co, KY

He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Cleveland, OH where he worked in several roles over 32 years. Following retirement, he operated Pompano's Bait Shop at Campbellsville City Lake for 23 years. He was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Temple and was a member of Medina (OH) Masonic Lodge where he was a Past Grand Master. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling. His wife, Nona Faye Beard, survives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10amET Friday, July 15th at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Gillespie and Bro. Jase Diven officiating. Hugh Mack Garrett, Taylor County KY (1926-2016)

He was a veteran of World War II having served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a disabled veteran having suffered injuries on Normandy Hill. He united in marriage to Mary Ann Fisher June 18, 1966 and was a retired farmer, factory employee and postal service employee.

She was a nurse and homemaker. Mrs. Humphrey loved animals and rescued as many as she could. She professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith.

Washington County fatal collision Tues 12 July 2016

SPRINGFIELD, KY (12 JUL 2016) - Tpr. John Boyd is investigating a collision that occurred on Monday, July 11, 2016 at approximately 8:39pmET, 15 miles north of Springfield, KY, at the intersection of KY 1754 and KY 555.

42-year-old Holly Horton, of Harrodsburg KY, was operating a westbound 2003 Hyundai on KY 1754. Ms. Horton failed to stop at the intersection and pulled into the path of a northbound 2013 Nissan operated by 42-year-old Christopher Mattingly, of Shelbyville KY. Mattingly's vehicle collided with the rear driver side of the Hyundai.

Adair County VFD answers fire call in the Millerfields

The Adair County Fire Department responded to a truck fire on Monday morning. The alarm time was 7:52amCT, firefighters responded to 792 Millerfield Road to Giles Country Store to find a Ford Pickup owned by Hollis Kernes was totally engulfed in flames.

The vehicle had been pushed away from the gas pumps prior to fire department arrival. The fire was contained and vehicle a total loss.

Eleven firemen responded and were on the scene for 45 minutes.

On Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at 09:24amCT, Deputy Aaron Rainwater was dispatched to an injury accident on the Louie B Nunn/Cumberland Parkway at the Adair/Russell County line.

Anne Langer, age 35, of Columbia, KY, was traveling east bound when her vehicle hydroplaned and struck a rock wall.

Parent asks about grade levels for free school supplies

The Answer: School supplies are free for ALL students, Academic Dean Phyllis Curry assures

An Adair County parent asks:
"There are rumors that no school supplies need to be purchased for any Adair County students this year, and that the district is supplying them. On the district website there’s no mention of this, and of all the school websites only ACPC has a posting up about not needing to buy any supplies. Has it been announced that ALL student supplies will be supplied by the district, or is it only for ACPC?" -CK
Thanks, CK, for the question. Adair County Schools Academic Dean Phyllis provided the answer: School supplies are free for all students, pre-school through 12, in the Adair County School District. There will be no need for parents to shop for the items. The money to pay for the supplies was approved unanimously by the Adair County School Board - Chairman Floyd Burton (Div 4), and members Terry Harvey(1)m Quinn Lasley, Lisa Burton (3), and Mike Harris (5).

Alan Reed, left, will be the principal speaker today, Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College, in the Cranmer Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY. The public is invited.

He will be bringing the community up to date today on major changes taking place in the Adair County School system as the district is readying the campus for the start of school in less than one month.

Plans underway for 3rd Annual Re-Visit Knifley homecoming/festival

Plans are underway for the 3rd annual Revisit Knifley homecoming and festival. The festival will take place September 9 and 10, 2016, in the Knifley community. A variety of activities are being planned including a pancake breakfast, car and tractor show, games and activities for kids, concerts and a fireworks show.

Committee members are actively seeking vendors to set-up booths on Saturday, September 10. They would like to have a variety of vendors as they anticipate that another large crowd will visit the festival again this year. For additional information about securing a vendor booth at Revisit Knifley, contact Gayla Baker at 270-789-0013 or Phillis and Lisa Greer at 270-465-4971. The Revisit Knifley Planning Committee meets each Thursday night at 6pmCT, at the Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department, 6130 Elkhorn Road, Knifley. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife acquires property in Pulaski County

FRANKFORT, KY (11 Jul 2016) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has acquired more than 2,900 acres in eastern Pulaski County. The property will be named Rockcastle River Wildlife Management Area due to its proximity to this designated Kentucky wild river.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife will host a public information meeting Tuesday, July 19, 2016, to provide additional information about this property and to gather feedback on management ideas for the area. The meeting will be held at 6pmCT/7pmET at the Shopville School gymnasium, 10 Shopville Road, Pulaski County, KY.
