Columbia Police Department arrested Adair County man for Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree. This brings the number of offenders arrested for felony drug trafficking by the department in 2014 to 24.

The Campbellsville Police Department responded to Osage Avenue in reference to an intoxicated man with a gun, today, Monday, August 11, 2014 at 2:59pmET. When officers arrived, they came into contact with Kenny D. Webb age 48 of Campbellsville. Officers were able to see Webb, who was armed with a handgun.

Garnett Harold (Chub) Hatfield, Casey Co., KY (1940-2014)

He was a farmer. Chub was a dedicated loving husband, daddy and grandpa. His passion after his family was farming and working with his tractors out in the field and spending time with his dogs. He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident at the time of his death. His wife of over 54 years, Eula Monday Hatfield, survives. He leaves 13 direct living descendants.

Doris Ann Spalding Chandler, Taylor Co., KY (d. Aug. 11, 2014)

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Campbellsville, the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Peter the Apostle in Naples, FL and the Legion of Mary. Doris volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Mission Store, was devoted to the Blessed Mother and made pilgrimages to many Holy places. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, was a past member of the Campbellsville Woman's Club and a founding member of the Campbellsville Country Club. Her passions were her family, Naples, FL and golf.

LW Football ranked No. 18 in NAIA Coaches' Preseason Poll

Blue Raiders received 123 total voting points for high national ranking

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College football team is ranked No. 18 in the 2014 NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll, the national office announced on Monday, August 11, 2014.

The Blue Raiders received 123 total voting points from the panel of national raters.

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team is picked to win the Mid-South Conference in 2014, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll released on Monday.

The Blue Raiders received 47 total points from the conference coaches and five of the eight first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

Adair County School District Transportation Directory now online

News from the Adair Co. School District Transportation Dept.

The Adair County Transportaton Director for 2014-15 is now online.

The Directory contains a treasure trove of useful information, not only for faculty and staff, but especially for parents and students. In the directory, you'll find:
  • The bus calling order for each of the schools
  • A list of the bus drivers or 2014-14, including their names, bus numbers, and phone numbers
  • Lists of Columbia Streets and Adair County roads, and Kentucky Highways, with bus numbers and run numbers
The online PDF notes that the town buses are allowed to haul 66 students; county buses may haul only 45 students.

BURKESVILLE, KY – Tpr. Logan Richardson is investigating a collision that occurred this morning, Monday, August 11, 2014, at approximately 3amCT, 7 miles west of Burkesville on KY 90.

30-year-old April M. Thompson, of Burkesville, KY, was traveling east on KY 90, operating a 2006 Chevy van when she crossed the center line and collided with a westbound 2007 Freightliner Semi Truck operated by 50-year-old Robert Nissley, of Monticello.

Students go back to school in Adair County Thursday morning, August 14, 2014 and will see many, many, many changes. The traffic routes have been altered to maximize the campus' six access points - three on Greensburg Street, three on the Bypass.

Adair CAIP farm program receives $200,00 in development funds

Grant will allow funding of 50-50 cost sharing with maximum funding of $1,500 per farm operation. Applications will be taken Friday, August 25 through Friday, September 12, 2014.

The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board recently approved $200,000 in Agricultural Development Funds for the 2014 Adair County CAIP program (County Agricultural Investment Program) to be administered by the Adair County Cattlemen's Association.

This program is a 50% cost-share program with a maximum funding of $1,500 per farm operation. CAIP is designed to provide farmers with incentives to allow them to improve and diversify their current production practices.

Applications for the 2014 Adair County CAIP program will be available August 25-September 12, 2014 at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street Columbia, KY, during regular business hours, Monday-Friday. Lewis Arnold Meeks, Casey County, KY (d. Aug. 8, 2014)

He was a Retired E-8 Senior Chief, Lewis A. Meeks, proudly served his country in the United States Navy from October 15, 1959 to April 30, 1981 and retired as GS-13 Civil Service in November 2000. His devoted wife of 54 years, Gearldine Meeks, survives. He leaves 14 direct living descendants.

Taylor Co. mother faces wanton endangerment charge

From Taylor County Sheriff's Office

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office in Campbellsville, KY, received a report on Monday, July 21, 2014, from Social Services alleging that a mother had left two small children home alone. After an investigation it was found that Anna Newcomb had abandoned the children, one aged four, the other nine months, leaving the two home alone for two hours.

Information from the investigation was turned over to the Taylor County Attorney's Office. On Sunday, August 10, 2014, an arrest warrant charging wanton endangerment 2nd Degree, was issued for Anna Newcomb, age 24 years. She was arrested and lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center in Campbellsville, KY.

The investigating officer is Dickie Benningfield.

It's not God!!! The color change is created by chemicals that were sprayed under the electric line. If you go back in a few days and take another picture of the destruction cause by humans it will resemble Hiroshima. - Brad Byington
Thanks, Brad Byington - A few days will tell. You give all of us a new point to consider in the countryside. Many are noting the blight along waysides in some of our most scenic highways from sprays and brute force cutting, and hope for better ways to control unwanted vegetation. - CM
