2014 Some big changes in store for Adair Co. School opening

Students go back to school in Adair County Thursday morning, August 14, 2014 and will see many, many, many changes. The traffic routes have been altered to maximize the campus' six access points - three on Greensburg Street, three on the Bypass.

I am anxiously awaiting the start of a new school year and a chance to work with the wonderful young people in this community. We also have many new employees and exciting new programs including the KCTCS presence for 30 new career paths and dual-credit options at ACHS, along with The Leader in Me initiative at every school.

Please note there are major changes at Adair County Primary Center and also the student exit procedure at the ACHS parking lot (students must exit via a new driveway and right turn only towards the Columbia Bypass. Also be advised that as the canopy project begins in approximately 8 weeks from now, there may have to be changes regarding traffic flow at both ACHS and ACES. When Mr. David Jones and principals figure out the best method to accomodate construction and safety, we will promptly share the information with your readers. Some temporary inconveniences will be the price of progress.

Please direct any questions to your child's school principal. We also request your help and patience in these first few days of school, especially the pickup procedure at Adair County Primary Center! The end result will be a much smoother and safer pick up procedure.

Let's all work together in order to make 2014-14 the best school year ever!

2014-15 Car Rider Pickup System at Adair Co. Primary Center

2014-08-11 - ACPC, 158 Col. Casey Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Patty Jones, Principal. New Car Rider System at ACPC for the 2014-15 School Year - "We are trying what we think will be a muchmore efficient and safe system for afternoon student pick-up at Adair County Primary Center this year. Any student who will be picked up by a personalvehicle on a regular basis will complete a form. Each student will be issued two car rider tags for drivers to keep on their vehicle. These will be place in direct vision on the dashboard of the vehicle when lining up for student pickup. In order to pick up a child at ACPC in the afternoon, you will be required to enter via the Veterans Bypass entrance. Vehicles will enter in front of the school. At 2:45pmCT, we will begin to call students out to cars. If you have a student's tag displayed on your dash you may leave with that student. We will have a staff member helping match students with people picking them upl If you do not have a student tag and want to pick up a student, you will need to park and come into the building and sign out as in the past. All cars must exit by the Bypass exit. This applies to all vehicles beginning at 2pmCT, and until all students have been picked up. See the diagram above. This does not affect morning drop-off. - Patty Jones, Principal, Adair County Primary Center, 158 Col. Casey Drive, Columbia, KY.

At ACHS drop-offs, pickups alternate for buses, cars

2014-08-11 - ACHS, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia KY - Photo by Troy Young, Principal. "At Adair County High School, our AM drop-off will remain the same. Buses will unload behind the gym in the morning and student drop-offs will unload in front of the building. This is reversed for the PM pick-ups: Students can be picked up behind the gym and buses will load in the front of the school in the afternoons. In an effort to help the flow of traffic in the afternoons, we have a change for our student drivers: We have added a new entry/exit into our student parking lot at the northern end. All entries/exits are accessible in the AM, but in the PM, the only exit will be out of our newly established exit. The other exits will be blocked off in the PM and students will only be allowed to turn right out of the student parking lot. We still have some ongoing construction at the beginning of school, but we don't anticipate that the construction will result in any major changes to the loading and unloading of students or affect their safety. We will monitor this process at the beginning of school and make adjustments accordingly." - TROY YOUNG, Principal, Adair County High School, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY.
