Snow Thanks from Gena Grider to some awesome people

Gena Grider writes:

I wanted to recognize some awesome people in our community. I had called several people to get my driveway cleared, but everyone was too busy. I look outside and see several firefighters shoveling my driveway!! So I just wanted to say thank you so much to these awesome people!! They were David Taylor, Chris Bragg, Grant Loy, and a couple others that I didn't recognize. I'm sorry. I am blessed to know people such as these!

Thank you!!

Travel-Road Conditions, KYTC District 3, 9amCT/10amET

Snow & ice crews out in Hart/LaRue/Green/Taylor/Marion Counties. Great progress is being made, but worry is that zero traction ice may be unavoidable with daytime thawing, nighttime freezing.
District 4 Elizabethtown, KY - Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor, & Washington Counties

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (9amCT/10amET, Mon 25 Jan 2016) - Hart/LaRue/Green/Taylor/Marion Counties - Snow and ice crews are continuing to plow secondary routes. Many roads are topped with compacted snow and ice, making it difficult for plows to "bite" down to pavement. With sunshine, warming temperatures and chemical treatments, these areas should begin to break up today and allow plowing to be more effective. We are also using additional grader equipment today on certain roads. Primary routes in these counties are in much better shape following a full day of sunshine on Sunday.

No School Tuesday, January 26, 2016

GO or NO GO with Larry Smith, FM 99.9 The Big Dawg, FM 92.7 the WAVE, and ColumbiaMagazine.com

From Supt. Alan W. Reed

There will be no school tomorrow, Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in the Adair County School system.

David Jones, Transportation Director, and I, will be monitoring road conditions and make a GO/NO GO announcement before 5pmCT tomorrow regarding school for Wednesday.

Our maintenance and custodial staffs have been working hard this weekend to clear roadways and parking lots on campus so that faculty or staff that needs to get into buildings can do so. They are doing a wonderful job but we still advise you to look out for slick spots.

If you have questions you are welcome to call me or any of our team here at the board offices at 1204 Greensburg Street or call me at 270-384-2476.

Snow Thanks & Snow Shots from Mt. Carmel community

Click on headline for story with photo(s). Posting in progress.

Larry Clark sent a spectacular set of pictures from the Mt. Carmel Community, with some modest brags about what great neighbors live out there, singling out John Arnold.

Neighbors helping neighbors. "Snow thanks," was the term writer Joyce M. Coomer used.

It would be hard for anyone to have more praise for a pillar of a community than Larry Clark has for John Arnold, but, if so, we'd love to hear today of those acts of heroism, large and small which make South Central Kentucky such a great place to live.

Snow Thanks: Neighbors helping neighbors

'I am so blesed to have caring neighbors. God is Good!' - YVONNE MARSHALL

Yvonne Marshall writes:
Friday night snow coming down fast, opened my door to a neighbor who had walked from her house to bring hot chili, cup cakes and much more. Sunday afternoon after being in since Thursday heard a loud noise, looked out to see Mr. Stotts, (Stotts Construction) and David Willis with his shovel cleaning my driveway as well as the neighbors. The only thing I can say is a simple Thank You! I am so thankful and blessed to have caring neighbors! God is Good! - Yvonne Marshall

Snow thanks: to so many who helped during the snow

By Joyce Coomer

Thanks to the rescue squad for taking Greg's father to the hospital a couple of times during the snow. (We couldn't get out of our driveway even after a half day's shoveling! Gotta get that 1978 Ford pickup in running order!)

Thanks to Darrell Loy for clearing our driveway Saturday so we could get out . . . we're parking on top of the rise above the house just to make sure we can get in and out!

Thanks for sharing photos I've seen several people's photos, on ColumbiaMagazine and emailed to me, of the fog frozen on trees . . . we didn't have that at our place -- no fog -- thanks to everyone for sharing their beautiful photos. Joyce M. Coomer

Yesterday was a warm day at our house. The thermometer on the front porch, in the shade, said it was above 40 degrees most of the afternoon.

Water dripped off the roof of the house, the roofs of all the outbuildings, and our vehicles from around 10 a.m. until after dark. (The house roof was dripping at 6 a.m. this morning.)

Maury Lewis sends thanks to anonymous John Deere Angel

Maury Lewis writes:

I want to say a big thanks once again to the Glens Fork John Deere Angel. He showed up to dig us out again. Last year I ask for help in Columbia Magazine for some help and this man showed up about 9pm on a big John Deere with a big blade. And he showed up again this year about the same time. I don't know his name and he won't take any pay. So I just speak The Blessing of God over him and his family for the whole year of 2016.

I also want to say thanks to all the people that have been out in this weather getting the county and city back to normal.

Thanks to all the firemen, police EMS people, doctors nurses electric and all the officials for making decisions on how to do things to keep things moving. --Maury Lewis 24 Jan 2016
