LWC beats Cumberland twice for MSC Softball tournament 4-Peat

Blue Raiders win 10-6 and 6-0 today at Kingsport, TN

By Dan White
News from Lindsey Wilson College

KINGSPORT, TN - Different year, same story, Lindsey Wilson is the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament Champions. With back-to-back wins against Cumberland (TN) at Dotmar Park on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, winning 10-6 and 6-0, the Blue Raiders wrapped up their fourth straight conference tournament title.

The Bulldogs put Lindsey Wilson, which reached a program-record 48 wins, in position to need two wins with a 2-1 decision in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament on Monday. Led by center fielder Ali Hart going 3-for-4 in the opener and catcher Jane Egiazarova hitting two home runs in the nightcap, the Blue Raiders got redemption with a Tuesday sweep of Cumberland.

Playing as the visitor in both games, Lindsey Wilson (48-8) took advantage at the plate with runs in the first inning of both wins. - By Dan White

Comment on gunshot tragedy: Says that when his children were living at home, his firearms were stored in a gun safe 500 miles from his home

By Jon Halsey
Personal commentary

What a tragedy! I can't begin to imagine the shock, grief, heartache, and disbelief the parents must be experiencing.

As a long time owner of numerous and various firearms I feel a certain rage at this senseless loss of innocent life. For a 5 year old to have access to a loaded weapon is mindless negligence that is repeated over and over.

Jackson Brower shares a letter to mentor Gordon Crump

Why culturally, Columbia shares problem of Pittsburg, PA (and maybe Rodney Daingerfield). Pittsburgh, like Columbia, is the "Athens of Appalachia," but rough and tumble, coal mining and football notoriety seems to overshadow its cultural achievements. A *WWNI alumnus brings shares Pennsyltucky concept, right fitting for the times we're in, with the juxtaposition of different cultures and the high drama being wrought before our eyes through the (controversial) stardom brought to Columbia by Christy Keltner, Rascal Flatt, Brent Yates, Jimmy Reliford, Travis Coomer, and the Sano Rooster on Backyard Oil, with another episode tonight on the Discovery Channel - we get only reports from Gradyville - our Columbia "box" didn't work even after Pen tried - and the cable guys said they'd send someone to install it - but so far, haven't seen one. - ED WAGGENER.
From Jackson Brower, late of Barnett's Creek Road, Pellyton, Adair County, KY, to Gordon Crump, a most respected citizen of Clay Ridge, KY, and former editor of the Columbia, KY Daily Statesman and Editor-at-Large for the newspaper chain located, then, at 107 N Reed Street, Columbia, KY

The Letter follows:

How are you, my friend?. I read Ed's piece about you in Columbia Magazine, and I was so happy to hear that you are living the good life in good old Adair County Kentucky. I love the photo of you holding your goats. I'm in the oil and gas business now with Atlas Energy LP.

Reason to attend hospital board meeting: Special Announcement

Adair County Hospital District
Board of Trustees, Meeting Agenda
April 30, 2013, 2013 at 6:30pmCT/7:30pmET
at Westlake Regional Hospital, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY
Agenda, April 2013 meeting, Adair Co. Hospital Board

The agenda is short for tonight for the Adair County Hospital Board of Trustees, but Item Number three "Special Announcement," appears to be a coded message that it will be a big deal - and should draw bigger attendance to the board meeting.

While the official announcement might only telegraph the recognition of a department head, other already Talked on the Street topics which might apply to this include a possible affilliation with a major statewide player in the Healthcare Field, one which would give strategic momentum and a huge competitive advantage to the hospital, or it could be an announcement of something else. Best guess for now: Affiliation.

Another reason for attending: Talked on the Street is that Neal Gold, working as a volunteer "administrator," is doing an excellent job. CM expects a word on that tonight, along with encouraging word on hospital utilization is coming along. (Latter tip courtesy of un-anonymous source, Mike Stephens, pharmacist, who is almost as upbeat about the turnaround underway as he was when he popularized "in walking distance of Lindsey Wilson College," - recognizing one of the most important factors in real estate values in Adair County. - ED WAGGENER.
