Schools, Businesses making Friday, a Dakota Meyer Day

Huge buildup in momentum underway to Dakota Meyer Day on Sunday. Let us know if your group is doing something special, by sending an item and/or a photo to post on CM.

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton called to say that she is overwhelmed with the response to the call to honor Dakota Meyer.

A popular movement, started by a few businesses and government offices, has turned into a movement. On Friday, September 30, 2011, schools, banks, government offices, businesses and individuals will be dressing out in the official Adair County Dakota Meyer tee shirts, now on sale at the CJE's office and City Hall, or alternatively, camouflage outfits.

Just this afternoon, an order for all the employees of United Citizens Bank was filled. According the UCB's Mike Curry, everyone at that bank will be wearing the Dakota Meyer tees on Friday.

Many offices in the courthouse will have Dakota Meyer tee shirts for uniforms, including the CJE's.

Adair County Circuit Court Clerk Dennis Loy announced that all employees in his office will wear Dakota Meyer tee shirts on Friday.

Lisa Lee, the Administrative Assistant in Judge Melton's office, said that there will be plenty of tee shirts for everyone and encourages everyone to buy them for the weekend. "It would be great if we had a sea of Marine blue and gold at Raider Stadium when Dakota is honored."

Judge Melton said she gets very emotional thinking about the spontaneous show of support for the Medal of Honor winner. "It's absolutely overwhelming," she said. "The people of Adair County are coming through like they can't do enough for Dakota Meyer," and she added, "of course they're right. We can never do enough to repay what Dakota Meyer, and what he stands for means to us all. No matter how much we do for the veterans, we'll always want it to be more."
