Letter: Remembers Junior Lumpkin

About: Obituary: Mr Junior Lumpkin, 55, Campbellsville KY

Connie Long Chapman writes:
To Connie Lumpkin:

I was in the hospital during Junior's death and funeral, and I am truly sorry that I couldn't come to the funeral home. I love you and loved Junior like you are my own family. He was such a special person and he will be so missed by everyone, especially his family. I know the upcoming days, weeks, and months will be so hard for you, and all the family, but especially you, Connie, because you were with him day in and day out.

I wish that I could say something that would ease your pain, but I know that I can't. I just want you to know that you're in my thoughts and I will never forget Junior for the kind, gentle man that he was, and he will remain in my heart forever. I still remember how you all would let me tag along with Betty and how we used to ride over to the lake. It seemed like he went over Happy Hollow Hill really fast. Of course, I was little, and that was before the road was straightened out. It may not have been that fast. Anyway, I always smile when I think of Junior, and you, and you will be in my thoughts. --Connie Long Chapman

Wildflowers of KY: Tips to spot Yellow Trout-Lily

About: Wildflowers of Kentucky: Yellow Trout-Lily, Adair Co., KY

Yellow trout-lilies are usually found in moist woods, particularly on slopes. The best way to find them is to look for the mottled leaves, which are said to resemble fish and grow in large clusters. In southern Kentucky the plants are only in bloom from late March to early April, but the leaves can still be seen. Derek Coomer

Adair Co., KY:
Prof. Azbill and the Electric Interurban Railway, 1901-1906

In this long, but fabulous account of an era of optimism in Adair County, KY, Jim recounts the promotion of the idea of an electric railway from Columbia to Lebanon, KY - sometimes on to Creelsboro - which obsessed Adair County for some six years. (Some, the writer thinks, still haven't given up on the idea)

By Jim

"The matter of the coming great enterprise was discussed until late bedtime, every body retiring to dream of the whistle of the locomotive." -- Adair County News, April 15, 1908.

Professor Azbill and the Electric Interurban Railway, 1901-1906

In the opening years of the twentieth century, Columbia and Adair County were offered two incredible opportunities. For one of the two, the Methodist Training School, now known as Lindsey Wilson College, the local citizenry grabbed the brass ring and held on with bulldog tenacity. As far as the other one, well, therein lies the tale.

History: More on the Chance, KY Post Offices

Store inside Y of KY 768 and 1952 never Chance Post Office, writer believes, but it was a store with a nice living quarters upstairs

by Janice Newton Reed

From Antioch, where KY 768 and KY 1952 meet in the Y, in 1930 when Henry Clay Bardin died, he owned all of the land all around the Y, down the Sparksville Road a ways and on the left, and right of KY 1952.

Where now there are single mobile homes and just about where the one double wide mobile home is now, was where the store/house was.

It was still standing into the 1980's. I can't remember exactly when it was burned, but my aunt and I went through the house before it burned down and it was empty and grass was all grown up around it.

News from Campbellsville Sports Information

GEORGETOWN, KY - If Kenny Lawson's CU golf team was a horse stable getting its thoroughbreds ready for the Derby, he'd be praying for a dry track on Saturday.
