Driver airlifted from Westlake following Bypass collision

The Columbia Police Department investigated an injury accident at 3:45pmCT, Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2010, at the intersection of Hwy 55 South and the Columbia Bypass.

The collision occurred when a 2003 Buick being operated by Remus Howard, age 87 years, Columbia was traveling South on the bypass and failed to stop at the stop sign and pulled into the path of a 1997 Jeep Cherokee operated by Billy Kerr 56 years, of Campbellsville KY, traveling South on Hwy 55.

Howard was taken to Westlake Regional Hospital then flown to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Billy Kerr and his passenger Colt Hagan, 24, of Campbellsville, KY, refused medical treatment.The accident was investigated by Officer Gary Roy. He was assisted by officer Jamie Cole and Sgt. Jason Cross, Deputy Richard Redmon ,The Columbia/Adair County Volunteer Fire Department and the Adair County Search and Rescue Team. -Chief Mark D Harris, Columbia Police Department.
