CU Men's golf stalls on moving day, finishes 4th in MSC golf By Richard RoBards News from Campbellsville Sports Information GEORGETOWN, KY - If Kenny Lawson's CU golf team was a horse stable getting its thoroughbreds ready for the Derby, he'd be praying for a dry track on Saturday. On moving day in the Mid-South Conference Championship at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, KY, the Tigers bogged down. Maybe they just aren't mudders? The Tigers were three strokes worse in the second round than they were in the first and lost another stroke to Georgetown for third place after 36 holes. With a 7am "shotgun" tee time, which happened with street lights still burning, the men were greeted with a steady and persistent rain through the first 45 holes of the 54-hole event. CU senior David Lee lost an 8-iron on the par-3 12th hole when the club slipped from his grip and helicoptered into the middle of a pond. Lee's third shot found water as well and he had to drain a 60-foot putt to card a six. Cumberlands won the team title with the 54-hole total of 876, two shots better than Lindsey Wilson. Lindsey trailed Cumberlands by three stokes after 36 holes, but Cumberlands put together three rounds under par, led by Pierre Carlsson's 68 - low round of the tournament. Lee's unfortunate accident was an omen of things to come for the Tigers. Campbellsville followed its first-round 306 with duplicate 309s and could not catch Georgetown for third place. Logan Griffin shot a 73 on the final 18 to tie teammate Trey Shirley for a 54-hole total of 227. Josh Ratterman had a final round 77 and Corey Prewitt's 83 rounded out CU's final 18 scoring. Georgetown's Christian Heavens was medalist with a six-under 210 (71-69-70). Tanner Mobley and Scott Foster, playing as individuals for CU, shot 220 and 225, respectively. Tanner finish was good for ninth place and Foster's 11th. Mobley went 76-73-71 and Foster fired consecutive 75s. Team scoring: Cumberlands (295-297-284) 876; Lindsey Wilson (297-298-283) 878; Georgetown (305-306-301) 912; Campbellsville (306-309-309) 924; St. Catharine (324-320-310) 954; Pikeville (349-338-328) 1,015; West Virginia Tech (367-347-368) 1,082.
