Kindergarten Preregistration change from May 1 to May 7, 2009

Due to the cancellation of school, the last Adair County District kindergarten registration scheduled for Friday, May 1 has been rescheduled to 8:00am to 2:00pmCT, Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Colonel William Casey Elementary, 220 Gen. John Adair DR, Columbia, KY.

The student does not have to be present at registration.

ADAIR CO, KY Tpr. Clint Walker is investigating a collision that occurred at 2:45pmCT, Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 4 miles north of Columbia, KY, on KY Highway 551.

Jim G. Burris, 80, Campbellsville, KY, was operating a 1994 GMC dump truck southbound on KY 551 when he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right shoulder of the roadway.

Obituary: Haley Marie Luttrell, 17, Knifley, KY

She was a junior at Adair County High School, where she was a member of the High School Chorus and the Pep Club. She was a member of the Robinson Chapel Separate Baptist Church. Schools in the Adair County School District will be closed Friday, May 1, 2009, in her memory.

Haley Marie Luttrell, 17, Knifley, KY, died Monday, April 27, 2009, as the result of an auto accident at the junction of Christine Road and CabbelL Road in Adair County, KY.

The funeral will be Friday, May 1, 2009, at 10:00amCT at Adair County High School Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY, with burial in the New Hope Cemetery, in the Ella community at 131 New Hope Church Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 2:00pmCT, Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Billie Kay Wilson receives AC Retired Teachers award

An Adair County resident received good news Tuesday. Billie Kay Wilson of Columbia was named the 2009 recipient of the Adair County Retired Teachers Scholarship.

A 2002 Adair County High School graduate, Wilson is an education junior who is specializing in grades five through nine with an emphasis in mathematics and science.

Present for the presentation were Ludora Perkins, Elizabeth Webb, Jean McLean, Margie Coffey, Wilson, Joyce Durham, Rita Marhsall, Bobbie Coomer and Carolyn Hancock; LWC Associate Professor of Education Larry S. Ennis, Alice Hadley, Rita Campbell, Juanita McQueary, Mildred Sandusky, Shirley Grider, Lewis Haynes, Shirley Harris, LWC Associate Professor of Education Melissa Saunier-Arnold and LWC Associate Professor of Education Janette Raltson.

When the Adair County Chorus performed "Closing Night," at the V.P. Henry Auditorium at Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY, last night, Monday, April 27, 2008, it was choral director Pamela Foust's final Chorus Concert.

Ms. Foust has directed the choir for 24 years. From all of us, alumni who benefitted so much from your instruction, we say, "Thank You, Ms. Foust! "

Cyclist riding Honda injured in Knifley RD, Columbia, KY crash

Cited for not having motorcycle operator's license, failure to comply with helmet law.

The Adair County Sheriff's Department investigated a single vehicle injury accident which occurred at approximately 1:15pmCT, Monday, April 27, 2009, four miles from Columbia, KY on Knifley Road.

According to the sheriff's office report, Jeremy Grierson of Columbia, KY, was operating a 2000 Honda Motorcycle and lost control in a curve.

Two vehicle accident on Kellyville RD injures one driver

The Adair County Sheriff's Department investigated a two vehicle injury accident on Kellyville Road in Adair County at approximately 10:35amCT, on Sunday April 26, 2009.

The accident occurred, according to the report, when Glenda Butler, 48, of Columbia, KY was operating a 2007 HHR and turned into the path of a 1994 Chevy Corsica being operated by Joey Perkins, 28.

Honda, ATV collision on KY 61 S injures two

ATV driver airlifted to UK; passenger in car taken to WRH

The Adair County Sheriff's Department investigated a two vehicle accident which occurred at approximmately 12:45pmCT on Sunday, April 25, 2009, on KY South 61, near Breeding, KY.

The accident occured when a 2008 Honda CR-V being operated year old Douglas Peterson, 65, of Fairfield, CA, collided with an ATV being operated by Ural Sneed, 72, of Columbia, KY.

ACHS A-Team at State Derby Festival Academic Challenge

The present day underclassmen and future of ACHS Academic Team was on display at the annual Derby Festival Academic Challenge at Bellarmine University in Louisville this past weekend.

The team competed in the three-day statewide tournament against all of the top programs across the state, from Pikeville to Paducah, from Louisville to Lexington.

Sewer service now available to Green Hills, Parrott Avenue

COLUMBIA, KY -- Sewer service is now available to 73 homes along Parrott Avenue and in the Green Hills Subdivision. The "tap on" fee will be waived for residents who sign up for sewer service by August 1, 2009.

The City of Columbia recently finished extending sewer lines to the area from the city's wastewater treatment plant. Septic systems tend to fail in the area due to poor soil conditions.

Bid awarded for $1.125 million addition to City Hall

City receives bids from nine construction companies. Chart of bids, below.

BCD Construction Company of Bardstown, KY was the winning bidder for the construction of a $1.125 million dollar addition to City Hall, on the south side of the present building at 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.

The City Council voted 5-0 to award the bid, with all five of the Councillors present, June Parson, Linda Waggener, Joe Moore, Edwin Taylor, and Charles Grimsley voting in favor of the action at a Special Called Meeting, Friday, April 24, 2009.

I am interested in how Dikilitas, Turkey, and Dolcedo, Italy, fare in this competition. I am not familiar with either of the cities and am interested in their locations withing their respective countries. I lived in Ankara, Turkey, for 18 months and have probably spent several weeks in various parts of Italy north of Naples. Unfortunately, I will not be able to talk with the students at the college this week. I have a trout fishing engagement.
