Doug Beard: Final thoughts on Wet/Dry Vote My final reflections related to the "End of Prohibition" in Adair County Personal commentary by Doug Beard Over the past several weeks, there has been strong commentary related to this issue. I can't remember a time when this many people have been so dedicated to a cause, whether they were for or against the sale of beverage alcohol. It is a great testimony to and acknowledgment of the great democracy we all enjoy. We can express our opinions in open debate and discussion. While this conversation certainly stirs emotion, it's one that is so important to the future of Adair County. People have expressed their personal decisions on this issue based primarily on their family teachings and influence, personal life experiences, perception of economic progression, and religious convictions related to beverage alcohol. As much of the discussion of late have been focused on theology. I would like to offer my personal thoughts. KY Afield Outdoors: Good fishing at nearest FINs lake By Kevin Kelley Frankfort, KY - Most anglers are beneficiaries of the "pay it forward" philosophy. That is to say, somebody once took time to introduce them to fishing. Spring is an opportune time to further the legacy, and any of the 40 lakes across Kentucky that comprise the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FINs) lineup make great places to teach a beginner the basics. These conveniently located smaller lakes offer good access and open shorelines but also fantastic odds of catching fish. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources keeps the FINs lakes well stocked with rainbow trout and channel catfish. Sunfish populations also are supported by stocking. Michael Regan: Says No vote is on the side of Light Michael Regan writes: Ms. Sexton, Thank you for your reply. It is simply just as you stated, humorous, yet, a very serious topic. Being flippant in media opinion often reveals the foundationless tower from which a proponent speaks. To state that "if you are going to quote me, at least humor everyone with the entirety of my statement. I quote you "Nobody can legitimately say they do not support alcohol sales in Adair County. You will either go to the polls and vote Yes for the Legal sale of alcohol or you will vote No for Illegal sales." is not a humorous thing to say. Every citizen of Adair County has a right to vote "NO" without the stigma you attach; that they are voting "YES" to bootlegging, which is obviously your inference. I would thank you for not adding condemnation to a good deed done by fine people. Please, all vote "No" and know you are on the side of Light. JIM: The wife does a lot of baking By JIM Nigh onto threescore years ago, my folks ran a grocery store in downtown Royville, over in Russell County. An older gentleman (his age then being about what mine is now) lived across the road. He, as did most of the nearby residents, popped into the store with some regularity to buy some item or another. This fellow, however, had a taste for alcohol. On occasion, when no other source was available, he'd walk across Highway 80 to the little general store and purchase several bottles of pure vanilla extract. (By FDA edict, the "pure" signified it was at least 70 proof.) With eyes averted as he paid, he would murmur, "The wife does a lot of baking."
