Doug Beard: Final thoughts on Wet/Dry Vote My final reflections related to the "End of Prohibition" in Adair County Personal commentary by Doug Beard Over the past several weeks, there has been strong commentary related to this issue. I can't remember a time when this many people have been so dedicated to a cause, whether they were for or against the sale of beverage alcohol. It is a great testimony to and acknowledgment of the great democracy we all enjoy. We can express our opinions in open debate and discussion. While this conversation certainly stirs emotion, it's one that is so important to the future of Adair County. People have expressed their personal decisions on this issue based primarily on their family teachings and influence, personal life experiences, perception of economic progression, and religious convictions related to beverage alcohol. As much of the discussion of late have been focused on theology. I would like to offer my personal thoughts. Religion, Christianity and Spirituality are so personal and we all have our own convictions and beliefs. While many have shared these openly in this forum, it is of the utmost importance that we all respect each other and avoid the negative connotations which often arise. We all of have personal convictions and we must strive to prevent passing judgment on those who present a different theology. But, if we want to take this into religious context, I would hope that we would all be open to the complete theology of the scriptures. Let's not depend on a few isolated verses without giving credence to studying the entire Bible. With that in mind, I think that anyone who would like to do a true and complete study of the Bible's teaching on wine and strong drink would find the book The Holy Bible repudiates "prohibition": compilation of all verses containing the words "wine" or "strong drink"... to be a wonderful resource. You can buy it from Amazon, download the file, or read it on-line for free at this link: google.com/books. There are so many books and passages that deal directly with this issue. It was written in 1910 by George G. Brown. And, after all of the discussions and debate, I believe it all comes to one major point: The Sale of Beverage AlcoholThank you and thanks to everyone who has contributed their thoughts to this topic. Regards, Doug Beard This story was posted on 2016-03-10 13:43:10
