Daffodils by Save-A-Lot were pretty sight

Bright spot gone after vandals snipped blooms

By Vonnie Kolbenschlag

Whatever the name, daffodils or Easter lilies or March Lilies a patch blooming along a roadside can't be beat for lifting the spirits and bringing some cheer to a bleak landscape.

The twenty-four beautiful yellow flowers along the entrance to Save-a-Lot have been snipped off. For what purpose? This was a bright spot for community enjoyment. How sad that some people destroy nature's beauty. --Vonnie Kolbenschlag

Chromebooks for Casey gets huge boost!

15 Chromebooks now assured! Anonymous donor sends $500 donation and $500 challenge donation has been made! With new pacesetters, Chromebooks for Kids is now within grasp of reaching its goal.
To help make sure the $500 challenge grant is successful, go to: Chromebooks for Casey - Col. Wm Casey School, Columbia, KY and donate now - Any Amount!> Even if you don't give now, see the name of all the wonderful people who have.

By Patty Jones, Principal

Three more donations today toward Chromebooks for Kids! Also, a $500 challenge donation has been made but is being processed by check.

It may take a few days for it to show up on the site. However, an anonymous donor has pledged $500 and will match up to another $500 in donations that are made.

With the $500 donation we only lack $1900 to reach our goal. However, if we have $500 more in donations it, along with the matching $500, will put us only $900 short of our goal.

We still have 30 days to make our goal and I feel confident that we can all pull together to make this happen for our students! Thanks again to the support shown and given in our community and actually across the globe. We had one donor whose location was listed as Europe! We truly are a global community! - Patty Jones

Thanks. Wouldn't be surprised to see solar panels on a golf cart out there, soon. And by the way, when the City of Columbia gets around to making golf carts street legal on certain streets, we could see a lot of golf carts. I'm still waiting for that. It's pretty simple to have that available. Would make it much simpler for me to haul stuff back from the Farmers Market on the Square than riding the company unicycle. - EW

Riley, a rat terrier is missing from Little Cake home

Cristian, 8 year old owner, is heartbroken

By Shelley Davis

On Sunday, April 8, 2013, Riley, our 1-year-old male rat terrier, got away from his 8-year-old 'owner' and took off into the woods. He was wearing a red collar with an attached 3-foot chain leash with red vinyl handle. He has never run off before and we fear the worst, but hope that maybe someone has come across our Riley.

Riley is 14-15 inches tall at the shoulder, approximately 20-24 pounds, mostly white with large black spots (has 'ticking' in the white) and red on his face. His ears are mostly upright but are still somewhat loose--the tips still fall forward. His tail is docked and about 1" in length.

Riley was last seen on the East end of Little Cake Road in Adair Co. right next to the government hunting/agricultural land. Cristian is absolutely heartbroken and wants Riley to come home. Any information is welcome, we have looked all over in the woods surrounding our property and haven't heard or seen him. Please contact Shelley at 270-384-0708
