Five of Adair County's seven districts elected Constables Tuesday, November 7, 2006.

There were no constable candidates in District 4 or District 7.

Ann Melton made Adair County history Tuesday night, November 7, 2006, as the vote count made her the first women to ever be elected Adair County Judge Executive. Celebrating with her is her daughter, Katy, a student at Adair County High School.

Election 2006: Mayor Bell gets mandate

Mayor Patrick R. Bell took 75.29% of the vote in his race with challenger Roger Rucker.

who was appointed Mayor of Columbia by the City Council after former Mayor Curtis Hardwick resigned to take a high position in the administration of Governor Ernie Fletcher.

Adair Election 2006: Fiscal Court has some new faces

The New Fiscal Court: 1) Roger Stephens 2) Wid Harris 3) Sammy Baker 4) Perry Reeder 5) Billy Dean Coffey 6) Joe Rogers, and 7) Terry Hadley

Adair County's Fiscal Court will see three new faces, with the election of Sammy Baker in the Third Magisterial District, Perry Reeder in the Fourth Magisterial District, and Terry Hadley in the Seventh,

And with the new faces comes a new majority. Prior to the election, Democrats held a 5-2 majority. In January, that will reverse. The new faces are all Republicans, all replacing Democrats, giving the new court Republican majority of 5-2.

Election 2006: The winners in Adair County wide races

The WINNERS of CONTESTED COVERAGE : Ann Melton, Adair County Judge Executive; Sheriff, Ralph Curry; Jailer, William "Bug" Knight. UNCONTESTED RACES: County Attorney, Jennifer Hutchinson-Corbin; PVA, Willie M. Feese; County Court Clerk, Shelia Blair; Circuit Court Clerk, Dennis Loy; County Coroner, Rick Willis; and Surveyor, Mark McKinney.

Ann Melton made history tonight, becoming the first woman in Adair County history to be elected Adair County Judge Executive.

In doing so. she brought the occupancy of the county wide offices closer to gender equity, with three women now in leadership roles in the County Judge's office, the County Attorney post, and continuing a legacy in the office of Adair County Court Clerk.

Students at Adair County Middle School flexed their democratic muscles on Friday by voting for their local candidates of choice in what serves as the countys only available polling numbers to date.

While seventh and eighth grade students at ACMS may be too young to go to the polls on Tuesday, they were plenty old enough to take part in a schoolwide mock election that teachers Cindy Walker, Wendell Froedge, Jennifer Hardin, Cindy Wells, and Barry Dunn organized to demonstrate civic responsibility.

Star, Dream Depot casts combine for Carol Burnett show

It's this Friday and Saturday at the Dream Depot

The Dream Depot will be presenting Carol Burnett skits this Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11, 2006, at 7:00pm CT. This show is directed by Mrs. Debbie Bell of the Star Theater, Russell Springs, KY. The cast of the Star Theater will be joining the cast of the Dream Depot for this show. HOLIDAY EVENT: Christmas in Columbia decorating contest

As in past years, there will be exterior home as well as a business category in the decorating contest during this year's Christmas in Columbia celebration scheduled for the first Saturday in December. And new this year will be interior home decorating.

Businesses are limited to within the city limits and are automatically entered with no registration necessary.

Olivia Gifford is overall LWC Soapbox Derby winner

Pre-Veterinary LWC student from Somerset pilots Pink Panther and is "King of the Hill"

Eight cars raced in the "First Annual*" Lindsey Wilson College Soap Box Derby, in front of a great turnout of spectators both from the college and the surrounding community.

The event was sponsored by Lindsey Wilson College Rotaract and the Columbia Rotary Club.

Of the eight entrants, two were in the junior level and six were in the college level. They ran three heats each.

Columbia City Council, Report Regular Nov. 6, 2006 meeting

In brief Election Eve meeting, council approves $7.25 million in bonds for LWC, gives signing authority to Mayor Bell on sewer and street projects, adds two street lights, and hears a report on the Fall PRIDE cleanup.

In last night's Columbia City Council meeting, the Council unanimously approved the issuance of a total of $7.25 million dollars in City of Columbia Educational Development Refunding Bonds on behalf of Lindsey Wilson College.

The City has no liability and the there will be no cost to the city to issue the bonds, Charles Munson of Rubin & Hayes, Louisville, said.
