Adair Election 2006: Fiscal Court has some new faces

The New Fiscal Court: 1) Roger Stephens 2) Wid Harris 3) Sammy Baker 4) Perry Reeder 5) Billy Dean Coffey 6) Joe Rogers, and 7) Terry Hadley

Adair County's Fiscal Court will see three new faces, with the election of Sammy Baker in the Third Magisterial District, Perry Reeder in the Fourth Magisterial District, and Terry Hadley in the Seventh,

And with the new faces comes a new majority. Prior to the election, Democrats held a 5-2 majority. In January, that will reverse. The new faces are all Republicans, all replacing Democrats, giving the new court Republican majority of 5-2.



A look at the individual races:

Roger Stephens holds on to First District Seat

Incumbent Republican Roger Stephens defeated Independent challenger Gene Dale Holmes in Adair County's First Magisterial District.


The vote was Roger Stephens, 538 votes, to Gene Dale Homes, 417
Stephens won the White Oak, Eunice Pellyton, and the absentees, while Gene Dale Holmes won the absentees.

Wid Harris overpowers Kelly Hamlett

William "Wid" Harris, the Democrat carried both precincts in District 2, E. Columbia and Ozark, and the absentees to defeat Republican Kelly Hamlett.

The vote was Wid Harris, 512; Kelly Hamlett, 512
Harris continues as the senior Magistrate on the Court.
Sammy Baker replaces Tony Loy in the Third

Republican Sammy Baker will replace Democrat Tony Loy on the 2007 Adair County Fiscal Court.

The vote was Sammy Baker, 546: Tony Loy, 461
Loy carried S. Columbia/Harmony, but lost Glens Fork/Melson Ridge to Baker. Baker carried the absentee voting by 58-29.

Perry Reeder defeats J.M. Shelley in Fourth Magisterial District

Republican Perry Reeder defeated first term Democrat J.M. Shelley in the Fourth Magisterial District.Reeder carried all three precincts in the district, as well as the absentees.

Billy Dean Coffey wins full term in Fifth District

Republican Billy Dean Coffey won a full term in Tuesday's election, defeating Democrat Jeff Hatcher. Coffey was appointed by Governor Ernie Fletcher to compete the term of Junior Brown, who resigned.

The vote was Billy Dean Coffey, 560; Jeff Hatcher, 476
Coffey carried the Milltown Precinct and the absentees, but Jeff Hatcher was won in West Columbia.

Democrat Joe Rogers was unopposed

In the Sixth Magisterial District, Magistrate Joe Rogers had no opposition in either the primary of the general election. He received a vote total of 654 votes.

Republican Terry Hadley takes seat Terry Farris holds

The Seventh Magisterial District seat went to Republican Terry Hadley.


The vote was Terry Hadley, 539, Wesley Taylor, 468.
Hadley had majorities in both the district's precincts, North Columbia and Hurt, and carried the absentees.

The seat had been held by Democrat Terry Farris, who chose to run for Adair County Judge Executive instead of seeking re-election.

The new lineup:

Republicans (5): Roger Stephens, Sammy Baker, Perry Reeder, and Billy Dean Coffey.

Democrats (2): Wid Harris, Joe Rogers.

Election 2006: Kelly Hamlett ran good race

Kelly Hamlett fell short of victory, but was congratulated by many for his strong race against political powerhouse Wid Harris for the Second Adair County Magisterial post.
