Election 2006: Mayor Bell gets mandate

Mayor Patrick R. Bell took 75.29% of the vote in his race with challenger Roger Rucker.

who was appointed Mayor of Columbia by the City Council after former Mayor Curtis Hardwick resigned to take a high position in the administration of Governor Ernie Fletcher.



Mayor Bell carried all precincts and the absentees to defeat challenger Roger Rucker 835 votes, or 75.29%, to 274 for Rucker, for 24.71% of the vote.

The Mayor will be serving with four of the six current Councillors.

Incumbents retaining their seats are Charles Grimsley, June Parson, Craig Dean, and Edwin Taylor.

Two new candidates, Greg Thomas and Linda Waggener made the top six.

The vote was:

  2. June Parson, 727
  3. Craig Dean, 670
  4. Greg Thomas, 663
  5. Edwin Taylor, 640
  6. Linda Waggener, 628

  7. Joe Moore, 599
  8. John Arnold, 420
  9. Shannon "Catfish" Rowe, 394
