Do ACMS students offer preview to Todays Election Results? Results from Mock Adair Election on Friday, November 4, 2006, can be compared in a few hours (minutes?) to actual votes from today's balloting. Winners are student vote include Ann Melton, Ralph Curry, Bug Knight, Pat Bell, Ed Whitfield, Russ Mobley, Mike Loy, and Gail Williams. Complete tally below By Barry Dunn,8th Grades Social Studies Teacher ACMS Students at Adair County Middle School flexed their democratic muscles on Friday by voting for their local candidates of choice in what serves as the countys only available polling numbers to date. While seventh and eighth grade students at ACMS may be too young to go to the polls on Tuesday, they were plenty old enough to take part in a schoolwide mock election that teachers Cindy Walker, Wendell Froedge, Jennifer Hardin, Cindy Wells, and Barry Dunn organized to demonstrate civic responsibility. Students were allowed to vote in all races (even those their residency would prohibit them from) and seemed to be particularly fond of those seeking office from the Republican Party as magisterial candidate Jeff Hatcher was the only Democrat to win a partisan race. The nonpartisan city races saw mayoral challenger Roger Rucker upset incumbent Pat Bell and city council members Charles Grimsley and June Parson voted off while Linda Waggener, Greg Thomas, and Shannon Rowe were voted in. In the judicial races the students seemed to favor hometown candidates Gail Williams and Michael Loy over their Casey County incumbent counterparts James Weddle and Raymond Overstreet.
