Kentucky Color: The Monkey Trap By Billy Joe Fudge Each day in the woods is another chance for new and different experiences. This one on the bank of a Denton Branch tributary, just East of Snake Creek Road, has to be right up there at the top of the "different" list! I'm sure you've heard of the monkey trap. Put a banana in a jar and when the monkey grabs it, he can't get his fist back out of the jar. It looks like to me that this situation must be akin to that scenario. Columbian Theater rebirth - an update By Linda Waggener Adair County School Superintendent Dr. Pamela Stephens and Production Director Doug Beard invited media representatives this week to tour the Columbian Theater and see the work that is in progress toward a winter 2022 opening. Foundational work, which doesn't really show, was the first priority to assure building integrity. Beard said it is solid as a rock according to architects who have visited. The roof is new and each area inside is being checked out and updated. Electrical is done. Ceiling repairs and plumbing will be next, along with deep cleaning. Bids are being taken on lighting and sound upgrades. The Columbian Theater goal is first to work with Adair County public school students, then Lindsey Wilson College students, then the community and surrounding counties who may need to rent the Theater. Letter: Time to replace flag at Annex By Vicki Brock Today I was looking at the American flag hanging in front of our Annex Building on the Columbia Square and couldn't believe what bad shape it's in! Surely there's money in our county budget to replace it. This is not what we want visitors to see when they visit our town. We should take great pride in our flag. If someone would please pass this along to who's in charge of this flag so it can be replaced. Thanks Update: Judge Cowan: Annex Flag is on the way 2022-03-30 07:02:21 | Comments | Printable version
A note of thanks to Extension Office I'd like to voice appreciation for the local Extension Office. All the staffers have been very friendly and quite helpful. I moved here in the last year; during that time, the agents have helped me find many local and federal agencies to help with farming questions, clubs for kids, continuing education in agriculture focused programs, family projects... And even cooking yummy snacks! I think the Adair County Extension Office is doing wonderfully. In the past week I've been to two different programs they offered, taught by different staff members. They present a unified front as staffers, clearly supporting each other in the office and between counties! I do hope other residents reach out to their local Extension Office and find out how they can learn more and grow as a person and maybe even something in their yard during the process. ;) Sincerely, The Arnolds of Fairplay 2022-03-30 06:58:34 | Comments | Printable version
