Cynthia A. Meyer: Is it Wild Corn Flower or Wild Chicory Comments re photo 73420 Wild Cornflowers on Bomar Heights in Columbia Cynthia A Meyer writes: Is it Wild Cornflower or Wild Chicory? --Cynthia A MeyerThanks, Cynthia A. Meyer - It is called Wild Chicory, too, and 10 or 11 other common names, according to Wiki/Chicory. One of the names we like from that list is "coffeeweed." And wonder why it doesn't have the name "Goldfinch flower." I can remember when literally hundreds of gold finches would gather at the corner of East Fortune and South Reed, when a large patch of Wild Cornflower dry seed would appear, and would love to see that sight again. Perhaps some inventive person will see that wild chicory seed is harvested and sold as gold finch seed. Does anyone know of edibility of any other part of the plant? Commercial potential sans carcinogen sprays? - EW 2017-06-28 02:31:31 | Comments | Printable version
