Ron Heath states why he will vote for Adair County to go wet 'The solution isn't for Adair County to stay dry. It's for parents to accept responsibility for raising their children so they know right from wrong when it comes to alcohol, drugs, and driving.' - RON HEATH Click on headline for complete commentaryBR> By Ron Heath Personal commentary For some time now I have read with interest the ongoing discussion about whether Adair County should "go wet" or "stay dry." Area residents have expressed their opinions for and against. Some comments are based strictly on emotions. They make wild and unsubstantiated claims of impending doom if the county goes wet. Others have tried to present a rational argument either for or against the issue at hand. Today I'd like to add my two cents worth. I intend to vote for Adair County to go wet. Many individuals have already mentioned the economic impact the sale of alcohol will have on this area. Instead of tax revenue going to Taylor, Marion, Russell, or Somerset Counties it will stay here to help citizens of Adair County. There are only two ways I know to balance a budget - either cut spending or raise taxes. Given the choice I know which one I would take. Shannon Sexton: Legalize it, regulate it and control it. Response to: Comments re article 81008 Michael Regan Will vote to keep dark genie in the bottle By Shannon Sexton, Chair, PAC (Progress in Adair County Personal Commentary With all due respect, your commentary revolves around fatalities of teenage drivers in alcohol related accidents. The legal age to purchase alcohol in a wet county is 21. Businesses will not jeopardize their investment and license by selling to underage teens. Where are these teens getting alcohol? I would suspect illegally from the bootlegger - the same place they've purchased it for years. Legalize it, regulate it and control it. It seems as though some people have blinders on when focusing on keeping Adair County dry and stagnant. I am not here to bash any personal or religious beliefs, you have just as much right to vote no for your own reasons as I do to vote yes. I would however like to attempt to sway your vote for my own (and many others) selfish, down right greedy reasons. Spring forest fire hazard season is here Burning laws to be enforced beginning February 15 - April 30, 2016 By Jennifer Turner News from KY Energy and Environment Cabinet FRANKFORT, KY (Fri 12 Feb 2016) - It doesn't make sense for wildfires to start easily when Kentucky has had such a run of cold, wet weather, but how wet or cold the ground is has little to do with how vulnerable dead grass is to a spark. "Despite recent precipitation, dead fuels like grass, leaves and twigs are rapidly dried with sunlight and wind," said William H. Steele, Jr., director of the Division of Forestry. "With only a few hours of sunlight and wind, these fuels can become primed for carrying a wildfire. It is very important that people do not develop a false confidence during wet conditions."
