Michael Regan: Will vote to keep dark genie in the bottle

By Michael Regin
Personal commentary

I wish to refer the reader to the Kentucky State Police statistics pertaining to automobile accidents; general injuries from same, and fatal injuries from 2011 through 2014.

You will notice the fatalities of teenage drivers in alcohol related accidents rose from 8 to 13 through those years.

One can take statistics from any source and use them for their own agenda. The hard facts, such as teenage drinking-related automobile accident deaths stand alone in any year.
They have gone UP.

Total accidents have gone down due to more vigilance on the part of parents, school anti-alcohol programs and certainly a zero tolerance by our fine state and local police.

The graph shown in the article by Shannon Sexton on February 2,2016 uses a sampling of the overall problem of alcohol related accidents.

Being more specific, and applying a graph to related teenage deaths due to drunk driving, one sees it really doesn't coincide with overall accident totals.

When youngsters have alcohol available, they WILL abuse it.

Is this where we wish to go? Will it be your son or daughter; your neighbor's?

I, personally, will vote to protect our youngsters, and keep this dark genie in the bottle where it belongs.

Thank you for your kind attention. a - Michael Regan, Columbia, KY
