Campbellsville, KY is without water

Updated at 8:58pmCT/9:58ET

By Larry Smith, 99.9 FM, the Big Dawg

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (March 7, 2014, 8:41pmCT/9:41 ET) - Most of the City of Campbellsville has no public water at this time due to an 18" water main break in Miller Park.

According to Mayor Tony Young, the main feeds the Campbellsville Water Company treatment plant. Water Company crews will be working through the night, Mayor Young said, in an interview at the Big Dawg studio tonight, after he'd been at the site of the break and talked with citizens while still muddy from being at the scene of the break.

The water main break will affect local businesses. Health Department regulations require restaurants to have running water when they are open, for instance.

I'll be reporting more, here, and on FM 99.9 the Big Dawg, and FM 92.7, the WAVE, as soon as I learn more.

Good morning, readers of ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Everywhere I go I receive questions on some sort of calendar relief (bet you are surprised). Right this minute there are five bills aimed at offering calendar relief to schools due to the extremely harsh winter; there could be one or two more bills filed in the final days of the legislative session. While it appears some relief will be given, what kind and when remains a mystery.

KY 900 resident disheartened at criticism of State Road Dept.

I moved here in 2001 from Chicago - and while it did take me time to adjust to snow removal and the conveniences of a bigger city, I would not trade where I live to move back. - MICHELLE COOMER

By Michele Coomer
Personal commentary

I find it disheartening that Mrs. Miller is being so cutthroat regarding the State Road Department. I live at the beginning of Highway 900 and I know for certain that the plows and salt trucks did runs throughout Sunday evening, Monday morning up until Tuesday evening. I also know they go all the way through to Melson Ridge. I know many workers on the Road Department crew that worked straight through the evenings placing their safety at harm to clean roads for our safety. There were ample warnings on local and nationwide weather stations warning that this weather would be severe and to prepare for this in advance.

Kathryn Miller: Others are standing up for change and progress

Kathryn Miller writes: It's interesting how so many here tried to verbally bully me and my husband when we spoke out about change and progress and how so many people thought we were the only ones who felt that way. Well now it looks like others are now learning they have a voice and a right to use that voice. We are not looking for everyone to agree with every word we say but we are proud to see others standing up for change and prgress and standing against just continuing to do things they same broken way they've always been done. - Kathryn Miller
