Pavement repairs scheduled for Interstate 65 in Bullitt County Click on headline for full story with crossover drawing By Andrea S. Clifford, Public Information Officer Louisville, KY (February 26, 2014) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) recently awarded a contract for roadway improvements to Interstate 65 in Bullitt County. The $20.7 million project will involve the removal and replacement of various sections of concrete pavement across a 20-mile section of I-65. "This project will provide a much smoother riding surface for motorists traveling both north and south on I-65," stated Matt Bullock, Chief District Engineer for the Department of Highways District 5 Office in Louisville. "While some patching and diamond grinding work has been performed in the past, this project will involve replacing any concrete slabs that are cracked or uneven due to settling." The majority of the pavement work will take place in the right and center lanes as they have the most deterioration. Approximately 45% of the right lane, 40% of the center lane and 5% of the left lane will have the pavement replaced. This equates to approximately 40 miles of concrete pavement. Work is scheduled to begin the week of March 10, 2014, at the Bullitt/Hardin County line and proceed north to the Bullitt/Jefferson county line. The roadway will be reduced to two lanes in each direction during most of the construction work. The speed limit will be reduced to 55 MPH in the work zone and double fines will be enforced. Temporary median cross-overs will be used and traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes while crews replace the pavement in the northbound lanes (see schematic below). Once that phase of work is complete, traffic will use the newly paved northbound lanes while work is performed in the southbound lanes. Some ramps closures will be necessary during this construction with closures being restricted to weekends. Advance notice and detour routes will be provided prior to each ramp closure. Hall Contracting of Louisville, Kentucky was awarded this contract with construction scheduled for completion in November 2014.
