Fire destroys huge structure in the Haskinsville Community

Firemen from three counties - five departments control fire, but only after it destroys the residence on a Shangri-La, the dream retirement home of Dr. Muthrine Walker-Anderson, who built the house after a successful career in marketing with AT&T. Firemen from Green County, Adair County, Summersville, Campbellsville/Taylor County, and Breeding on the scene for approximately 5 hours as fire runs it course

A huge structure fire destroyed a residence which the owner described as her dream house today, Friday, September 6, 2013, on Caldwell Road in the Haskinsville Community of southern Green County not far from the Adair and Taylor County borders.

Clifford Giles, Adair County, KY (1935-2013)

He was a member of a distinguished Adair County, KY, family. Clifford was a successful businessman and farmer who was widely know throughout Adair, Taylor, Green and Russell Counties in the grocery business; his family was currently operating the Millerfield Grocery. He accepted the Lord at a young age, was a life long member of Tabernacle Christian Church. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #96. Clifford was also recognized in his community for his keen sense of business, as a loyal friend and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

KY 1798 In Taylor Co., KY closed beginning Monday

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (September 6, 2013) - Motorists along KY 1798 in Taylor County are advised that the road will be closed between Mile Points 1 and 2 beginning Monday morning, September 9, 2013. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet maintenance crews will be making drainage improvements at a culvert location in preparation for resurfacing. For access on either side of the closure, KY 70 will provide a route to the east and west ends of KY 1798. Work should be complete and the road reopened by 3pmET on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

News from the Adair County School District

The Adair County Board of Education voted unanimously this morning to donate a surplus three door refrigerator to Westlake Regional Hospital during a Special Called Meeting. Board members in attendance were Greg Willis (Div 1), Joe Payne (Div 3), Mike Harris (Div 5), and Floyd Burton (Div 4). Also present were Superintendant Alan Reed, Westlake Board Member Neal Gold, and Westlake Food Services Director Crystal Burton. The motion was created by Board Member Greg Willis and seconded by Joe Payne.

Surplus lockers donated to State Highway Road Department

The group also voted unanimously to donate surplus lockers to the State Highway Road Department. Board Member Joe Payne created the motion with Greg Willis seconding. The surplus items being donated are from the two schools that have just been replaced by Adair County Primary Center and reconfiguration.

The Blue Raiders face No. 14 William Carey (MS) University this evening. No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (2-0) enters the game already having defeated a pair of top 25 opponents. The Blue Raiders defeated No. 21 Davenport University in the season opener, 3-0, followed by a 5-2 win over No. 3 Spring Arbor (MI) University on August 30, 2013. - Charles Balcom

A quick reminder Early Release Fridays start today in AC Schools

A reminder that Early Release Friday starts today. Drivers are reminded that those big yellow school busses with Adair County's most precious cargo will be on the road at an earlier time this afternoon, too

News from the Adair County School District

As part of the Race to the Top grant, the Adair County School System will begin Early Release Fridays beginning September 6, 2013 and running through April 25, 2014.

What does this mean for you and your family? All Adair County Schools will dismiss students at 1pmCT on Fridays. Bus transportation home will be provided, or students may be picked up at their school at 1pmCT. Professional Development will be attended by staff for the remainder of the day.

All four schools will be providing enrichment activities for students who need or want to stay. So be keeping an eye out for complete information on your student's school program. Also, remember that parents are responsible for student pick-up from all after school programs ending at 3pmCT each Friday.

Columbia man arrested on stolen property charge

Larry Smith, FM 92.7 FM, Columbia-Russell Springs, KY, is reporting that Adair County Deputy Sheriff B.J. Bray arrested 29 year old James R. Jacobs, Columbia, KY on September 4, 2013, on a charge of receiving stolen property. Jacobs was also arrested on two outstanding warrants from Green County. FM 92.7 the WAVE is reporting that Jacobs was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail this morning, Friday, September 6, 2013. The WAVE says that the arrest appears to be part of a larger story yet to be released by law enforcement. The arrest took place in the 100 block of Miller Avenue, Columbia, KY between Jamestown Street and Bryant Street, an area cordoned off for much of the day on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

The Taylor County Sheriff Department needs your help in locating a missing person.

James P Cook was last seen on 09/03/2013 at the Lucky Vista Motel in Campbellsville, KY. He left there on his way to the local hospital; however never arrived. Mr. Cook is a white male, 72 years of age, with Alzheimer's and congestive heart failure history. He may not be taking his medication properly. He is 6 ft, 2 inches tall, gray hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen operating a Green 1995 Ford Pickup truck, bearing Kentucky license plate number 916FPS.

Anyone with information as the the whereabouts of Mr. Cook is urged to contact Deputy Ricky Underwood or the Taylor County Sheriff Department at 270-465-4351.
