Poetry by Robert Stone: Necessary Tasks, a sonnet

Necessary tasks
- a sonnet reflecting on "Distracted," a play by Lisa Loomer
Procrastination and distraction share
avoiding necessary tasks at hand.
One focused, other focusing no where,
both answering illogical demand.

Is fear of first encounters cause of loss
by forfeiting new chances through neglect?
Is fascination with both gloss and dross
sad sign of problem solving disconnect

. What past has swallowed up what might have been
by overwhelming wondering what if.
What future will the timid never win
afraid to venture from old habits stiff.

With tender touch beginnings can persist
for caring comforts cannot be unkissed.

- Robert Stone, 3 March 2013

Happy Tail: Amelia - First of three Amigos to find Furever Home

Amelia has left to join the Keltner home, where, as it should be, she'll be spoiled rotten. Author Peg Schaeffer had a chance meeting with Trinket while shopping in town; the puppy was cordial with her and another dog from Sugarfoot and happy to see them, but couldn't wait to get back with her new family. Amelia was engaged toy shopping, too.

Trinket's (the Beagle/Basset mom) puppies are now three months old and available for adoption. Amelia was the first to find a home. Sarah Keltner and her Mom came to the farm looking for a puppy.

The pictures were Gaffes, work of clever photographers

A conundrum solved, in a way. The picture was real, while the facts were facts, related to the latest CM Conversation on 'Truth in Lying.' Why Jerry Loy remembers right, (as opposed to Remembering Big, as the late James Howard Keltner used to forgive hyperbole of a historical nature). Connell Morrison and Gaffes. Time to a historian. Double entendres from double exposures.
This leaves the bigger mission, locating the Giant Cane Valley tree Gaffe, ongoing. CM Conversation on Truth in Lying ongoing, as well

By Mike Watson

I have searched my files, in vain, I fear, for the Adair County News publication of this legendary photo. I have seen it lately--to me that means within the past half-decade!

The photo was of two Cane Valley residents, names not remembered without the aid of the photo, sitting on a horse or mule. The horse was standing upon a giant stump.

Remembers Georgia Morrison creations at Hannah Fowler House

New story inspired by Hannah Fowler opened in 1962 by Adair County Historian Mike Watson

By Peggy Fudge

Thanks to Mike Watson for the information in his story.

Now I'd like to learn which local artisans had their work for sale there. Does anyone remember?

Of course, there were the famous books, but beyond that the only contributor I remember was Georgia Morrison. She made the most wonderful stuffed animals.

Others made corn shuck dolls, apple head dolls, baskets, toys and games made of wood, and a variety of things to fascinate a child.

If anyone remembers any of the work of the talented people who sold items at the Hannah Fowler house, please share your memory with CM. --Peggy Fudge

I have been informed by a really good friend of mine that a man should never lie except in business when he needs to. Well, should this story prove to be somewhat less than factual certainty, it does have to do with business, but as to the necessity, I don't know. - Billy Joe Fudge

Wilson W. Wyatt, Sr.

Wilson Watkins Wyatt, Sr., age 80, published a memoir of his public life [Whistle Stops: Adventures in Public Life, The University Press of Kentucky, 1985].

In that memoir of some half-century of public service Wyatt hues carefully to the line between excessive modesty and over weaning arrogance. Too much of the former and we would not have a vital account of a man who strode large on the local, state, national, and world stage from mayor of Louisville in 1941 to being chosen special envoy to Indonesia for President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Too much of the latter and we have the self-serving egotism of an Albert Benjamin Chandler.
