Spay/Neuter Awareness: Report on Adair Co., KY activities Several activities promoted day during month of February and on World Spay Day in Adair County, KY. By Peg Schaeffer The month of February was Spay/Neuter Awareness Month and February 26 was World Spay Day. Organizations and individuals all over the country celebrated in different ways by hosting hundreds of events to promote spay/neuter as a way to save lives. World Spay Day is an annual campaign of The HSUS and Humane Society International in collaboration with animal welfare organizations, veterinary professionals, businesses, and individuals worldwide that shines a spotlight on spay/neuter - -a proven way to save the lives of companion animals, feral cats, and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in a shelter or killed on the street. Sugarfoot Farm Rescue and Lifebridge for Animals joined forces and held events to raise funds for spay/neuter and offered low cost spay/neuter vouchers for dogs and cats. Since the first of January there have been 74 certificates sold. On Tuesday, February 26, 2013, we held an Open House at the Sugarfoot Farm Rescue Annex and had a drawing for 2 spay/neuter vouchers. The winners were: Dog certificate: Courtney Grider and the Cat Certificate: Dinelle Grant. Door prize winners were Ruby Sneed, Lex Potter, Dawson Rhodes, Marion Hurmann DeRoos, and Heather Evans. Dr. Steve King, of the Red Barn Vet is one of the veterinarians who have volunteered his services to alter pets at a reduced rate for Lifebridge for Animals. In the short time since we have started the program he has spayed/neutered over 110 pets. Including the 23 vouchers we sold at the reduced rate and the 2 winning certificates it won't be long before he hits the 150 mark. Just think of all the unwanted litters he has prevented. - Peg Schaeffer Contact us if you would like to help.
