Individual K-PREP score reports available at Adair Schools

By Phyllis Curry, Instructional Supervisor
Adair County, KY, School District

Individual student K-PREP score reports have arrived and may be picked up at schools from the guidance counselor at each school for any student who was in grades 3-8 during 2011-12. ACHS has K-PREP and End-of-Course reports for students who were in grades 10 and 11 last year.

In addition, ACMS and ACHS have EXPLORE and PLAN results for this year's 8th and 10th graders. Both these tests predict how well students will do on the ACT their junior year in high school.

Parents of 2012-13 seniors are encouraged to obtain a copy of their child's ACT scores to determine if students have met benchmarks in English, math and reading. These are also available at ACHS. If students have not met one or more of the benchmarks, it is not too late to retake the ACT or to meet the benchmarks by passing the Compass or KYOTE test.

Students planning on attending college must be at benchmark or they may be required to take remedial courses, which results in additional costs and extra time needed to complete courses.

For more information, contact Phyllis Curry, District Assessment Coordinator, Adair County Schools, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728, (270) 384-2476. - Phyllis Curry

Asks if there's proof we have bona fide Johnny Vaughn

Comments re photo 47451 Surprisingly not even a writein vote David Upchurch writes:
Can you be sure this man is Johnny Vaughn or could he be a slim and trim Johney Boone that's hiding out in Adair County? - David Upchurch
A good question, Mr. Upchurch: Surely the fellow was who he said he was. There must be severe laws against impersonating Johnny Vaughn in Adair County. -EW

Wooly worms: Watching nature for weather change

H. Smith writes:
While location may be a minor factor in the accuracy in the Wooly Worm's ability to accurately predict the weather in a given area, it does not lessen the overall value of them as a perfect predictor of weather.

The same goes for taking a drive through the mountains, in my case along the Blueridge Parkway in the fall and assessing the fullness of the coat of the deers. Only ignorant people question and deny the process of nature's taking care of its family in both the summer and the winter by dictating the need of their outer-wear. Its purpose is to protect those valuable citizen of nature and not to indicate a condition of nature to a bunch of shallow and non-caring humans, who do not have the intelligence to provide for their protection when nature gives them a undeniable indication that they are in the direction of destruction.

If you do not get the message, I am talking about Global Warming or the more political correct nomenclature "climate change." -H. Smith-

Link: Story in Time Magazine on legalization of marijuana

After Massachusetts and Colorado legalized medical use of marijuauna (Oregon rejected a similar measure) in Tuesday, November 6, 2012 balloting. Time magazine has a story on the pro's and con's of legalization. The story does not give a clear cut answer, but on balance appears to find more in favor of legalization than against.
