Supt. Alan Reed welcomes new board member, those re-elected

By Alan W. Reed, Superintendent, Adair County, KY, Schools

I want to congratulate all the winners in race of seats on the Adair County School Board.

I want to welcome Ms. Quinn Lasley to the school board, and look forward to getting to know her better. As Superintendent my job is to work openly and in a spirit of cooperation with each of our board members to improve student performance.

Congratulations are in order for Mike Harris and Floyd Burton, who will be returning to the board. Both have made outstanding contributions to educational progress in Adair County, and, I believe, are eager to see an acceleration of the progress we are now enjoying.

Marsha Walker, will, of course, be greatly missed. Her dedication to core academics was an inspiration. She will be greatly missed; her contributions will be long remembered.

Increased competition for seats on the Adair County School Board is especially encouraging. We were fortunate to have so many qualified individuals seeking the office. My thanks to all, including those others who did not make it this time - Charles Miller, Bill Steele, and Rhonda Cox. The public owes a debt of gratitude to you for raising the level of interest in education. My thanks, too.

School Board members are seldom appreciated to the extent their unselfish service warrants. We have to admire the courage of those who are willing to give so much for little in personal reward besides the vicarious satisfaction we all get from seeing the kids, the children - our students - do better in life.

My position - justifiably so - precludes me from taking sides in the political side of education. My job is to work with the board members citizens elect, and I will continue to do just that.

- Alan W. Reed, Superintendent
Adair County School District
