Epicurean Kentuckian: Hopes Hot Boiled Peanuts will catch on here

Cooked Adair County-grown peanuts inside - and they were just as good

By Maury E Lewis

I am from the Deep South and these are grown every where down there. They are cooked and sold on the side of the roads. "Hot boiled peanuts" all you need is lots of salt and hot, hot water.

Something You don't see everyday here: Adair Co. grown peanuts

Barbara Armitage had samples of boiled peanuts at the Tuesday afternoon, October 16, 2012, Farmers Market and offered her recipe to all who would listen. Hers are the best. Soft but firm, not mushy, and salted just right. Better'n anything in South Carolina. Maybe better'n those at the C stores in Russell County - a nation slightly more southernized, owing to Indian entrepreneurs, than most around here. - EW

There's only one day in the south that rivals Christmas morning in anticipation - Peanut Day. We hard core southerns have been known to pace the fields for days even weeks, watching, waiting for just the right time to "dig-um"!

My first call about the happy event went out to fellow "goober pea" lover, Melewi. Her only reply 'Get the water boiling"!

You see Maury and I grew up eating right. We looked forward to fall because that meant boiled peanuts.
