Governor announces SpanTech to add 25 jobs in Glasgow, KY Conveyor systems manufacturer to invest $3.8 million in the Commonwealth By Kerri Richardson and Terry Sebastian News from Governor Beshears Communications office FRANKFORT KY - Governor Steve Beshear today announced SpanTech LLC plans to expand operations in Glasgow, adding 25 new, full-time jobs and investing $3.8 million. The company plans to lease an additional 55,500 square feet and purchase new equipment as part of the expansion. "We're excited to see SpanTech add 25 jobs while it continues to grow and succeed," said Gov. Beshear. "SpanTech is an inspirational company, starting small and growing into an international business. This partnership will help SpanTech remain a competitive force in the global marketplace." Founded in 1978 in Glasgow, SpanTech is a manufacturer of custom conveyor systems, specializing in the production of conveyors used in the frozen food, baked goods, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. The company, which currently employs 66 people at its Glasgow facility, plans to add a new sortation division to support and diversify its customer base in the warehouse and distribution markets. "The growth trend that SpanTech is experiencing is a direct result of the passionate and intelligent people who work together every day," said SpanTech Executive Vice President Dan Nasato. "We are committed to building the best conveyor and sortation systems possible; it's more than a goal, it's how we do business. There is no limit to the growth we can achieve, because there are no limits to the human content and innovation of this company." To encourage the investment and job growth in Glasgow, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $500,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets. "SpanTech's decision to invest so much in our community is great news on two fronts; it highlights just how successful our own homegrown companies can be, and it further confirms that our local workforce is really second-to-none," said Rep. Johnny Bell, of Glasgow. "I want to thank SpanTech for making this move, and I'm happy that the Commonwealth and local officials could help." "SpanTech has been a valuable member of Glasgow's manufacturing sector since 1978," said Glasgow Mayor Rhonda Riherd Trautman. "The upcoming expansion of facilities, operations and employees is very positive for Glasgow and we are thankful for their investment in our community. Starting as a small, locally owned company and reaching the level they have achieved by being a global supplier of conveyor systems demonstrates that innovation and quality production is alive and doing well in Glasgow." "Barren County has enjoyed a long-standing community relationship with SpanTech, and we look forward to working with them as they continue to grow and provide secure economic opportunities for our citizens," said Barren County Judge-Executive Davie D.
