In separate actions, the Adair County Fiscal Court approved Craig Pyles and Richard Grant to fill two vacancies on the Adair County District Hospital Board.


Richard Grant was recommend by Judge Melton to fill out the unexpired term of Josh Harden, to November 14, 2012. On a motion by Daryl Flatt (2), with a second by Sammy Baker (3), Mr. Grant was approved.

Some observed two phantom painters working on this fire hydrant and wondered what was going on. Haven't gotten a reason why, but it's turned out to be a great piece of street art, and Columbia's first Dalmatian fire hydrant - as cute as a speckled pup. If anyone else knows the perpetrators, hope they'll let us know. We'd like to publicly thank them for making more people smile.

ACHS Boy's Golf picks up 6th win - over Marion County (170-177)

Trey Garmon has best score with round of 41

On Tuesday afternoon at Rosewood Country Club, the Indians picked up their sixth win of the young season by defeating Marion County by a score of 170 to 177. Trey Garmon led the way with a round of 41. Daniel Rarey 42, Alex Durham 42, Riley Grant's 45 and Blake Maupin's 46 rounded out the scoring for the tribe.

Filing deadline was 4pmCT; list of local candidates below

All incumbents with open seats filed in the Adair County School Board and City of Columbia Council races. Two incumbents, Adair County School Board Chairperson Floyd Burton in Division 4, and former School Board Chairperson Mike Harris, Division 5, are unopposed. Former Board Chairperson Marsha Walker will be in a three way race, with challengers Quinn Lasley and Charles Miller.

All City Councillors now in office filed for reelection, including, in order of filing, Linda Waggener, Robert W. Flowers, Jim Hadley, Craig Dean, June Parson, and Anthony Grider. Seeking seats on the council are former councillors Charles Grimsley, Joe A. Moore, and Dr. Ronald "Butch" Rogers, with newcomer Craig Lasley filling out the 10 candidate field.

Soil & Water Conservation Board filing deadline at 4pmCT

In addition to filings for school board and Columbia City Council candidacies, Clerk Sheila Blair says that the deadline to file for the Adair County Soil & Water Conservation Board is also at 4pmCT, today, Tuesday, August 14, 2012.

No one has filed, as of 2:13pmCT, today. If just four people file, the offices will not be on the ballot this fall. If fewer than four, or more than four file, the offices will be voted in the General Election, November 6, 2012.

Two injured in collision at intersection of KY 61 & Bypass

Occupants transported to Westlake Regional Hospital

From Columbia, KY, Police Department

On Monday, August 13, 2012 at around 1pmCT, the Columbia Police Department responded to an injury accident on the Columbia Bypass. The accident occurred when a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Carolyn F. Taylor, 64, of Columbia, was traveling south on Hwy. 61 and failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a 2009 Dodge Caravan driven by Rick Courtney, 56, of Columbia which was traveling south on the Veteran Bypass.

The Courtney vehicle was then forced into the path of a 2006 Honda Element driven by Paul Lagod, 36, of Hermitage, TN. Taylor and Courtney along with one passenger were transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by Adair EMS. The accident was investigated by CPD officer Drew Conn. Also assisting was the Columbia Fire Department and Adair County Search and Rescue.

Brake failure blamed in Mon., Aug. 13, 2012 injury collision

At Campbellsville Street & Fairground Street Intersection

On Monday, August 13, 2012 at around 3pmCT, the Columbia Police Department responded to an injury accident on Campbellsville Street at the intersection of Fairground Street. The accident occurred when a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Bridgette Wade, 20, of Columbia, KY, who was traveling west on Fairground Street, failed to stop at a red light due to possible brake failure.

Wade's vehicle was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet 2500 crew cab pick-up truck driven by James Crowe, 59, of North Anderson, IN which was traveling south on Campbellsville Street. Crowe along with two passengers and Wade were transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by Adair EMS.

The accident was investigated by CPD officer Charles Greer who was assisted by Detective Tracy McCarol and Sergeant Jr. Murphy. Also assisting was the Columbia Fire Department and Adair County Search and Rescue.

Adair County High School Girls Golf lost to Green Co.at Green Co Golf Course, Inc., on Monday, August 13, 2012.

Green Co. shot a 172 and was led by Cassidy Scantland and Leah Rose with 41's, Olivia Parrott shot 42, and Sydney Agee a 48. Other scores for Green Co. included Gracie Parrott 61, April Houk 59, and Skye Moss 59.

Adair Co. shot a 205 with Ashley Goodin shooting a 43, Rachel Phipps 50, Abby Royse 54, Hailey Taylor 58, Lauren McQuaide 70 and Madison Bell 71.
