2010-04-24 - Photo by CM. Bettys OK Country Cooking, 2339 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY
Creamy Fruit Salad Although it is packed full of fresh fruits and nuts which are good for you, it's easy to forget that and just think of the concoction as a wickedly delicious dessert. When it is on the cold bar at Betty's buffet. It's a complex salad with sliced freshstrawberries, white and red grapes, peaches, apple, pineapple, celery, cashews and little marshmallows in sweet white sauce. It's good.

Birds OK: Mystery nest is that of hummingbird

About: Birds of Kentucky: Mother Nature goes stealth photo by Cindy Meyer

Comment on hummingbird nests

I immediately recognized this as a hummingbird's nest. My grandmother found a nest almost exactly like this a few years ago with newly-hatched hummingbirds.

I'm pretty sure the birds use spider-webs as a main part of the nest (it gives it the soft cotton feel). Also, I believe the lichen on the outside is intentional.

I'm not sure if it has a purpose of insulation or if it is just camouflage. But I can guarantee this is a hummingbird nest. -Cameron Campbell

Locality had some rough and tumble characters and a frontier flavor as late as the 1940s and 1950s, but a lot of good people lived there, store's owner then remembers...but still doesn't know how town got its name
About: Scenic Adair Co., KY: Last Chance Store, Chance, KY

By Bobby D. Morrison
Memories of growing up in Chance, KY

I have very fond memories of the Chance, KY store. My father, Ebb Morrison, and my Grandfather, Charlie Morrison were the owners of the store during the 40's and traded/sold it to Clarence Bean in the early 50's.

We lived there during my earlier years and I remember sitting under the tree and listening to the stories told by the people who gathered there.
