Comment on hummingbird nests

I immediately recognized this as a hummingbird's nest. My grandmother found a nest almost exactly like this a few years ago with newly-hatched hummingbirds.

I'm pretty sure the birds use spider-webs as a main part of the nest (it gives it the soft cotton feel). Also, I believe the lichen on the outside is intentional.

I'm not sure if it has a purpose of insulation or if it is just camouflage. But I can guarantee this is a hummingbird nest. -Cameron Campbell

Birds of Kentucky: Hummingbird nest with chicks

2010-04-24 - Photo by MikeSmith, Wikipedia open source photo. Cindy Meyer's Mother Nature in Stealth Mode photo of an unused hummingbird nest led Cameron Campbell to identify the engineering phenomenon as a hummingbird nest. This open source photo by MikesSmith on Wikipedia gives another angle on one of the nurseries, this one with two babies inside.
