COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team swept a doubleheader today from visiting West Virginia University Tech at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders (30-22, 12-14 in the Mid-South Conference) won the opening game 3-0 on the strength of sophomore pitcher Derek Cape's arm. Lindsey Wilson overcame six errors and 13 runners left on base to win 4-3 in extra innings in the nightcap.

Lindsey Wilson remains in 1-1/2 games clear of University of the Cumberlands (KY) for fifth in the conference with two games remaining in the regular season. With one more win, the Blue Raiders will secure fifth and will face St. Catharine (KY) College in the opening round series of the MSC Tournament next weekend.

In the first game, Cape hurled a five-hit shutout in the Blue Raiders' 3-0 win.

The Columbia, KY, native, struck out seven Golden Bear (13-34, 5-20 MSC) batters en-route to his team-leading seventh win of the season.

Junior outfielder Joseph Willis provided the game's first run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to plate sophomore Drew Barrett to give LWC the 1-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning on senior first baseman Zach Prichard's sacrifice fly. Sophomore Garrett Helm scored on the sac fly and Willis scored on a wild throw to give the Blue Raiders the 3-0 lead and eventually the win.

Barrett and Prichard each ended the opener with a pair of hits in the win.

Blue Raiders come from behind in nightcap

In the nightcap, Helm's bases loaded walk in the ninth pushed home the game-winner in the Blue Raiders' come-from-behind 4-3 win.

Lindsey Wilson overcame a 3-2 deficit with a run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the game into extra innings. Sophomore catcher Lance Harrington's RBI single tied the game at 3-3. Harrington finished with a pair of hits in the game while reaching base in all four plate appearances. He also had two walks in the game.

After Tech grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, senior third baseman Max Rhodes hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Tech added a run in the third before the Blue Raiders mounted their comeback.

Sophomore pitcher Jeremy Greene picked up the win in relief. Greene pitched four shutout innings after relieving senior starter Luis Parra who allowed just one earned run in five innings of work.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 9amCT on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Egnew Park, 820 Hanley DR, Columbia, KY, as the Blue Raiders host a doubleheader to conclude the weekend series with West Virginia Tech.
