Adair County Health Department will offer free diabetes classes Free Diabetes Classes will be offered at the Adair County Health Department, 801 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY 42728 on April 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2010 from 1pm to 3pmCT. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Busy February 2010 By State Representative Bam Carney House Closes February with a demanding schedule With the deadline for requesting new bill drafts and the eighth week of session behind us, legislative committees and the House of Representatives acted on several bills in this, the last week of February. HB 36 would delete distinctive historic language from oaths of office House Bill 36 cleared the House Elections, Constitutional Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. This constitutional amendment would amend the oath of office taken by the Commonwealth's elected officials by removing the portion that affirms the individual has not been involved in fighting a duel with deadly weapons. If both chambers pass this bill, which would delete language dating back to 1897, the amendment would be placed before the voters for ratification in this November's general election. The event will take place in Exhibit Hall 2C and Rooms 110-112, at the Kentucky International Convention Center, 221 Fourth ST, Louisville, KY 40202. The doors will open at 8:30amET/7:30amCT, and competition will begin at 9:30amET/8:30amCT. There is a $15 per person admission; children 7 and under are admitted free. Clara was some grades ahead of me; if my memory serves me right her sister Alice was in the same class as I was. Phillip was 1 or 2 years ahead and his brother, Tony, was the same class as I was. Phillip, the basketball goal was on the old wooden store, building that has been gone for many years, and was right beside the old bank. There were some great games back there. Tour de Cure is bike ride to for cure for diabetes "I am starting a team through the shop for this fundraiser ride and I thought folks in Columbia might be interested as well." Tom Waggener, Main Street Bikes, 545 Main ST, Shelbyville, KY By Tom Conquest Tom Waggener has given me the opportunity to talk a bit about a cause that is very dear to my heart. My father passed away due to complications caused by diabetes, so when I learned of the Tour de Cure I jumped at the chance to raise some money to help find a cure for this terrible disease (and as a bonus I get to be in a great group bike ride with a lot of people with the same goal). I ride in the Louisville leg of this national event on May 15, 2010, and and the funds I raise for each mile I ride will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Rebuilding year for ACHS Boys ends with narrow loss Indians had come on strong at end of season, but won't have a chance to repeat as 5th Region Champions, but outlook is exciting for next year. The Adair Co. High School Basketball team's season came to a close last night at Campbellsville High School in a narrow 40-42 loss to Taylor Co. High School. It had rebuilding year following the 2009 State Tournament appearance, but Coach Mark Fudge's young team turned in performances which bodes well for coming seasons.
