Remembering Frances Sadler:
Her smile could be highlight of day

About: Obituary: Frances Louise Sadler 84 Taylor Co KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Frances Sadler was indeed a rare and unique lady. Eddie and I had the honor of knowing and attending church with her over the past 10 years. Seeing her smiling face was always the highlight of our Sundays.

Never a cross word, always willing to listen and boy did she give great hugs. And her love of Christ was never in question

.I was blessed to have meet and shared in Frances's life. She lived her life to the fullest and it was indeed a celebration of what Life should be.

We will miss you Frances!! Give them heck in the Spirit World!!

Reflecting, back home in The Holler

As I opened my eyes Friday morning it still seemed somewhat of dream. Our kids actually performed in the Macy's Day Parade. I actually saw the Macy's Day Parade with Dusty and all of our band family and friends. And we were really still in New York. Of course the dream didn't last long.

Old pump presssed into service as make-do for Col. Wm Casey

Update to the situation: As of 1:30pm, Saturaday, an old pump was located in the maintenance building that hopefully will hold the heating system over until a new replacement pump is located. As of now the boiler system is back up and running thanks to the quick and creative work of maintenance crew workers, Mitchell Bault and Randolph Lewis. Our custodial staff plans to watch it closely the remainder of the weekend to ensure that no problems arise. Without the pump repair, a large section of Col. Casey School would have out of heat Monday morning.-Patty Jone

The pictures linked to this story show what greeted maintenance and custodial workers this Saturday morning, November 28, 2009, at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary.

For the third time this fall a boiler pump has malfunctioned causing interruption to the heating system at CWC.

By Allan Owens

Last night I took the long trip with Jeff Calhoun to Cave City to see the Kentucky Headhunters and BlackStone Cherry perform at the Convention Center.

Seeing the band come home: A goosebumps moment

About: The Band is Home Coming onto Jamestown ST

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Even with all the extraordinary pictures of the band on their trip and in their performance, I got goosebumps when I saw the pictures of the busses rolling back onto Jamestown Hill from the Parkway.

What a fantastic experience for everyone involved. I guess we showed the world what wonderful places Kentucky and Columbia are. Thank you, band leaders, members and the Waggeners and Shamarie for all the wonderful talent and coverage for us outlanders.

s/Martha Berry

Thanks to you. If the camera shook when the picture was taken, it was from the emotion, not the fall chill. It's wonderful to have them all back home. -EW

The Band is home at 8:35amCT, Sat., Nov. 28, 2009

UPDATE They are safely home, a little sooner than expected - back on he Adair County School District campus at 8:35amCT
UPDATE at 7:54amCT: ETA now 8:30am! We just passed the Fishing Creek Bridge and Mile Marker 85 on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway.

By Shamarie Claiborne, Co-Captain with Jamie Murrell, Bus No. 7
As dictated by cell phone to ColumbiaMagazine.com

WINCHESTER, KY (6:33amCT) - We've just made a stop in Winchester, KY, on the way home but are now back on the road, headed home. The bus driver said we should arrive in Columbia in about 2 1/2 hours, which will be around 9amCT, in case you want to see the caravan come in on Jamestown Street, if the tour comes the way we left town.

We left New Jersey after a buffet dinner there, and since have only had one eating stop when we cleaned out the rolls and doughnuts in one location, I forget just where it was.

We had excitement during the night when we woke up and saw snow had covered the ground in West Virginia.

We watch a lot of movies on the bus. My job as a bus captain is to work with Jamie Murrell, the other captain, to make sure everyone is present and accounted for, and I get to select the movies we see. This morning, we'll be reliving one of the real highlights of the trip, getting to see "The Lion King" at the Mishkoff Theatre. For most of us, it was the first time we'd seen a New York play.

With all due respect to Macy's, one part of the trip which I might like to forget was Black Friday shopping in their store yesterday. It was a scheduled part of the trip, but for me, it was Shopping Hell. The place was packed--with mobs of shoppers, nothing like my experience buying the insulated wool hat from the street rack. That I'll remember. From the last of the seven busses, hope to see everyone at 9am in good ol' Columbia, Kentucky, the nearest place to Heaven and The Holler there is. -Shamarie

Financing of School Construction: The bonding procedure

The simple arithmetic: Why the tax is such a bargain for Adair County taxpayers interested in a brighter future for our kids
Second in series: Click on Better schools for Adair County students for first in series

By Darrell Treece, Superintendent, Adair County Schools

School districts in the state of Kentucky are prohibited from borrowing money. The process that must be used is bonding, which overall does work the same way as going to a bank and borrowing. The state must authorize a district to sell bonds and will only do so if there is a restricted account at the district that will have the yearly funds to make the bond payments.

The Band was the focal point of the world, for a moment, and that moment was made possible by a vast army of people

Commentary by Mark Hale

What a fantastic journey for everyone, even those of us who watched in our homes.

The band performed wonderfully. This trip gave these young people an opportunity to see things they could never see here.

LWC Men's Basketball rallies past IU-Northwest 98-74

Blue Riaders score 62 points in second half. McPherson has 33 points; Andrija Tintor and Joshua Cherry add 12 each in lopside victory in Mid South Conference challenge

By Dan White, LWC Sports Information Director

FRANKFORT, KY - It was a tale of two halves as the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team turned a 36-36 tie at halftime into a runaway 98-74 win against Indiana University-Northwest in the Mid-South Conference Challenge at the Frankfort Convention Center on Friday, November 27, 2009.

Senior Eric McPherson hit 6-of-7 three pointers to lead Lindsey Wilson with 33 points -- just three shy of his career high - while his classmates Andrija Tintor and Joshua Cherry added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Yes: Make every November 26 Adair County Band Day

About: Make every November 26 Adair Co Band Day

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I would like to second Sharon's idea, declaring every November 26 Adair County Band Day. We all have to agree Adair County is very proud of each and every student in the bandm along with Mr. Allen, Mr. Emerson and Mr. Case.

All the band parents, boosters, and supporters. Our kids in band are the cream of the crop: High achievers, and very disciplined.

We have been long time supporters and boosters of the band. Always very respectable and polite. Macy's was for our entertainment. and the ACHS Band went all the way to make us proud. Hats off to each one of you. I will always remember how special you made the Macy's Day parade for us in Adair County and all around the country side.

Thank you for giving us a very memorable day.

s/Alice and Everett Wheeler
