Trip may have given band members hint of their futures The Band was the focal point of the world, for a moment, and that moment was made possible by a vast army of people Commentary by Mark Hale What a fantastic journey for everyone, even those of us who watched in our homes. The band performed wonderfully. This trip gave these young people an opportunity to see things they could never see here. It may give some of them a hint of what they want to do with their lives. So many young people end up going to college and get a degree in something just to get a degree, and never have any idea what they want to do as far as a career is concerned. I hope this helped some of them to look to the future and seek out a good career. There are so many people who deserve our thanks. Mr. Tim Allen has spent his entire career helping to shape the lives of so many kids, spending countless hours with each of them. The school system has provided support through the years. Every parent has been out money that they may not have really been able to afford, but sacrificed everything they had for their kids. The band members have all spent countless hours practicing to be the best, and oh did they ever show the world why they are known as the best. All current members and alumni need our thanks for a job well done. Mr. Case you deserve thanks as well for continuing to carry the torch. The best is still yet to come for this trip is only the beginning of a long legacy of champions. Shamarie deserves many thanks for her up to the minute reporting and first class photography of this entire event. Thanks to all the band boosters. Thanks to all who contributed to the fund raiser for this event. Thanks to the bus drivers who missed Thanksgiving with their families for our kids. And thanks to Ed and all at Columbia Magazine for such a great forum for all of us to participate in. Columbia and Adair County may not be alot of glitz and glamour, but we all love it because of its beauty and its citizens.Happy Holidays, Everyone. -Mark Hale This story was posted on 2009-11-28 03:16:03
