Old pump presssed into service as make-do for Col. Wm Casey

Update to the situation: As of 1:30pm, Saturaday, an old pump was located in the maintenance building that hopefully will hold the heating system over until a new replacement pump is located. As of now the boiler system is back up and running thanks to the quick and creative work of maintenance crew workers, Mitchell Bault and Randolph Lewis. Our custodial staff plans to watch it closely the remainder of the weekend to ensure that no problems arise. Without the pump repair, a large section of Col. Casey School would have out of heat Monday morning.-Patty Jone

The pictures linked to this story show what greeted maintenance and custodial workers this Saturday morning, November 28, 2009, at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary.

For the third time this fall a boiler pump has malfunctioned causing interruption to the heating system at CWC.

This time has certainly caused the most damage in that the entire Speech room was covered with water mixed with black soot.

Condensation covered every inch of the room including the four new computers that have been installed in the past year. As this message is being sent the maintenance department is working diligently to locate a new pump in time for the reopening of school on Monday morning.

At the same time the CWC custodial staff is busy cleaning up the mess left behind by the malfunction. A replacement pump was ordered over a week ago when another pump went out.

However due to the difficulty in locating parts for the out dated system it has yet to arrive. Without this pump a large section of the building will once again be without heat. It is our hope that with Adair County's help this problem will resolved in a more permanent way.
