LWC Men's Basketball rallies past IU-Northwest 98-74

Blue Riaders score 62 points in second half. McPherson has 33 points; Andrija Tintor and Joshua Cherry add 12 each in lopside victory in Mid South Conference challenge

By Dan White, LWC Sports Information Director

FRANKFORT, KY - It was a tale of two halves as the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team turned a 36-36 tie at halftime into a runaway 98-74 win against Indiana University-Northwest in the Mid-South Conference Challenge at the Frankfort Convention Center on Friday, November 27, 2009.

Senior Eric McPherson hit 6-of-7 three pointers to lead Lindsey Wilson with 33 points -- just three shy of his career high - while his classmates Andrija Tintor and Joshua Cherry added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Pete Trgovich III led IU-Northwest with 25 points, hitting 8-of-25 shots from the field.

IU-Northwest used 50.0 percent shooting from three-point range, combined with a 20-14 rebounding advantage to stay in contention in the first half.

Technical fouls, however, got the best of the Redhawk's effort after the break.

In all, IU-Northwest was whistled for five technical's, negating the high-scoring performance from Trgovich III and allowing the Blue Raiders to gain the momentum needed to explode for their second-half domination.

McPherson - who didn't score his first points until near the 10-minute mark of the first half - had seven points at halftime, but scored 26 points after the break to lead the game.

IU-Northwest looked like the sharper team after Lindsey Wilson hit just 3-of-15 shots during the first 10 minutes of action. The Blue Raiders were repeatedly stung by sharp backdoor cuts and deep three-pointers from the Redhawks.

Improved shooting wasn't the answer in the second half for Lindsey Wilson, it was an added emphasis on rebounding that helped change its fortunes.

The Blue Raiders outrebounded the Redhawks 42-36 for the game, including a 14-5 advantage on the offensive glass. Not having a player over 6-4 on the roster and playing just seven players the majority of the game took its toll on the Redhawks as LWC pulled away.

IU-Northwest entered the game averaging 84.5 points per game, but Lindsey Wilson is limiting its opponents to 65.5 points per game and put forth another strong effort against the Redhawks.

The Blue Raiders and Redhawks finished the game shooting near identical percentages from the field at 47.4 and 46.7 percent, respectively.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 5-2 on the season - including a 3-0 mark in neutral-court games - while IU-Northwest falls to 3-4 with the loss.
