Click on Headline for full story plus photo

By Cindy Meyer

I snapped the accompanying candid photo of Mrs. Eliza Perkins, who lives in the Whitewood Community of Green County, proudly displaying her Christmas Cactus, a previous gift from her brother, in its natural regalia of blooms on her 90th birthday! I know you should never tell a lady's age, but when you have been on the planet that many years, it does give one permission.

Reader applauds statement (on CM ban of Shakespeare)

COF's Shakespeare quote stirs yearnings in Tractor Man

We received this innocent enough, much appreciated letter from a source which chooses to remain anonymous:
Your response to "The Tractor Man" re: the Avon was priceless. You have truly risen to the promise of local journalism and this is a prime example of one of the many things that keep your readers coming back even long after they've moved "off."

Excellent job! To quote one of my favorite editors: "Thanks for all you do"!
Thanks. We're so happy someone appreciates that there's method in the madness, and why we have had to ban Shakespeare from CM -EW

The COF opts to dispense wisdom under nom de plume

About: Knifley, KY reader delves into a mystery in her community

Good Morning, Mz Sue:

Please be assured that if'n I'd dast to speak "for...or against" Knifley I would definitely do so under my full name.

As it is, I choose to merely comment on the passing scene under the guise of my nom de plume. (After all, some of these Knifley boys are pretty darn good size and not known for an expansive sense of humor when it comes their little piece of heaven.)

Knifley, KY reader delves into a mystery in her community

About: COF cites Shakespeare on value of dilatory time
To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I have asked you before who COF of Knifley is but have not got an answer.

I , and many others would like to know who this person is. Since we don't gather at Arnolds or Bakers, we would like to know who is speaking for us or against us. I agree on the new school building.

I would like to know who is looking over Knifley. Please give him my e-mail address and send him or her this note....

Thank you.

s/Sue PerkinsThanks, Sue Perkins. What's in a name. The COF, by any other name, is still the COF. The COF has identified himself (he speaks oft of his wife) as The Crusty Ol' Fool. I will forward your email to him, and he will contact you if need be. Just for the record: He is not Wendell Rainwater, Charles Patterson, Darrell Baker or the ghost of John Dunbar, nor is he any of the Keith Livermores. CM
