Recalling the saga of a great hog, Gen. Veelie of Russell Co., KY A story published in print issue No. 10, Columbia Magazine! recorded the life of General Veelie, told by the late Carlos Mann, about a great hog which roamed the woods around Rockhouse Bottom, on the Cumberland River, and whose annual captures were mostly destined to fail, even when General Veelie was sold as far away as Columbia, KY. He always escaped and returned to his same woods around Creelsboro. Ultimately his fate to become porkchops and bacon was assured when an entire streamship crew at Burnside transferred him to a Cincinnati processing plant-bound railcar.
