Adair Co. Medication Disposal Program set for Fri. Sept. 19, 2008

There will be a Medication Disposal Program on Friday, September 19, 2008, between 1:00 and 5:00pmCT on Jamestown Street between the new Chamber of Commerce Gazebo and the Jamestown Street Bank of Columbia branch.

The program is sponsored by the following Adair County agencies:
  • The Adair County Judges Offices
  • The Adair County Solid Waste Management Program
  • The Adair County Coroners Office
  • The Adair County Sheriff's Office
  • The Adair County Ambulance Service
The program is open to all Adair County residents; proper ID is required.



The safe and legal way to dispose of unused or expired medicationsDisposting of medications by throwing in the trash or flushing is not the recommended practice because studies have found that drugs can kill helpful bacteria in septic systems and waterways.

Pills, capsules and liquids and must be in the original container to be accepted.Chemotherapy medications, patches, inhalers or suppositories will not be accepted.

To promote the safe disposal of medications, area pharmacies have donated door prizes to be given away at the conclusion of the medication disposal program.
