I currently live in Edmonton, KY, and I also was awakened this morning when I felt my bed shaking and could hear things downstairs shaking as well.

I also felt it again around 9:00am this morning, although it wasn't as strong as the earlier one.

I thought I was going crazy.

Oh, and by the way, I have family in Red Boiling Springs, TN, and they also felt it there.

Earthquake 2008-04-18: Like herd of buffalo

To read the large number of posts related to the Earthquake of 2008-04-18 Click here

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I was awakened at 4:40 this morning with what I thought was a herd of cattle running by the cabin! It reminded me of the movie "Dances With Wolves" when the herd of buffalo ran past his cabin and shook everything off the shelves. I ran to look out each window but didn't see anything and then it came to me that it was an earthquake!

Letter: Homesick for Adair County

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I have just returned from my annual winter stay in Florida. Today I have been enjoying the wonderful spring scenes in and around Adair online.

Now, I am homesick for Adair County and will be planning a visit soon.

Nancy M. Fouser

Good. That's the whole idea of the photographs--any way to get people back to visit their Mommas. We'd lay guilt on if that worked. But if pictures do it, fine. If photos make people nostalgic for the homeland, sobeit. Please say "Hi" to us when you're here! After you see your Mother. -EW

Double Fatality on KY 210 reminds of earlier tragedy

PHOTO

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

The picture you have posted of the double fatality on Hwy 210 is of the very same spot that was the scene of four fatalities in 1985.

My sister-in-law's car went off the road there in a flash flood killing her and her eighteen year old daughter and my young daughters ages ten and twelve.

You can see that spot in the background of old 210 now known as Wayne road. I now share some bad memories of that spot with the families of these men who were killed there.

My sympathy to their families.

I wasn't sure what it was at first, but then we thought what else could it be. We live in Sparksville near the old grade center. It felt like the whole house was swaying back and forth for several seconds.

Tremor felt in Shelbyville. It was the real thing

    5:27amCT update

It was an earthquake, all right. Word of mouth report of Tv station saying there was an earthquake, centered near Evansville; we'll probably hear about it on news reports today.
At 5:12am, Tom Waggener, who hadn't read Tony Harvey's message, called to ask if we had felt the earthquake. He had been awakened by it at his home on Main Street in Shelbyville, thinking at first that it was a train. "But the train doesn't shake things that much," he said. "Then I thought it might be someone shaking the door." He checked. It was that. Tom says it's on the news now. He's heard through Teresa's folks that it was a 5.4 earthquake centered a little west of Evansville, IN. Though it is possible that what the relatives heard was that the news cast mentioned the possibility of a 5.4 earthquake.
Didn't find any report on Google at 5:22am about the Earthquake in Evansville. But there is a KET video online about the threat of earthquakes in Kentucky. Click

    Ed:

I'm checking to see if you're awake at this hour, it is 4:43amCT. About 10 minutes ago I felt a very unusual tremor or something going on here at our home. It wasn't blasting at the quarry either. I mean our entire home was shaking, it even shook my chair I was sitting in.

Let me know if you were awake and felt it. Please.

    Tony Harvey

I didn't feel any shaking of the house at the time, but, coincidentally I did wake up at exactly that time. If anyone else is up and felt a tremor, let us know using a Contact/Submit button -EW
