By Tony Harvey

Hi again, I knew I wasn't going crazy. This is what I felt this morning. Here's a link on the subject: : http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2008qza6.htmlIt shook so bad here I didn't know what was going on. It actually made my chair shake that I was sitting in at my computer.

After I regained my composure I looked around the room where I was sitting and it had shook hard enough to move objects on tables and book cases.

If this was a 5.4 on the Richter, then I wouldn't want to experience a 7 or 8 earthquake. I do know this much if we were to ever have one of that size here. The devastation would be totally unbelievable and the older homes here in the county wouldn't be left standing.

Living this close to the New Madrid fault line I think we all believe that something such as a large earthquake will never happen here. I think that we should all be smart enough tothink otherwise.

Here's the location of this mornings 5.4 quake.
  • 12 km (7 miles) E (90) from West Salem, IL
  • 13 km (8 miles) NE (53) from Bone Gap, IL
  • 14 km (9 miles) W (266) from Allendale, IL
  • 67 km (41 miles) NNW (335) from Evansville, IN
  • 206 km (128 miles) E (93) from St. Louis, MO
Google Maps says West Salem, IL is 258 miles from the Adair County Courthouse at 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY. For that map and directions, Click Here
