Governor presents checks for $852K for Adair improvements Larry J. Smith, General Manager, The Big Dawg, FM 99.9 radio was on hand to grab some photos of the check presentations. Governor Andy Beshear was in Taylor County on Friday, February 11, 2022, to meet with officials from Adair, Taylor, and Casey Counties, and present checks for a variety of improvements in each county. Adair County officials received a check for $147,600 to resurface portions of Richard Hollow Road, and the Columbia Adair Utilities District received a check in the amount of $705,214 to improve water volume and pressure in the Knifley area. The Adair County Water District will receive $705,214 to construct a new water line along Kentucky Highway 551 that will connect two existing water lines on each side of the Green River. This will improve water volume and pressure for the Knifley area. The local pump station and pressure-reducing valve also will be replaced. "Clean water is something that a lot of people take for granted. Improvement to these water line projects and the pump station will be a tremendous asset to Adair County," said Adair County Judge/Executive Gale Cowan. "The resurfacing project on Richards Hollow Road will also be a huge asset. This road has 25 to 30 homes and businesses on it and is a heavily traveled road in Adair County. We are happy to see state funding for this project and want to thank Gov. Beshear and his staff for the assistance." Health screenings offered at National Farm Machinery Show By Sean Southard At this year's National Farm Machinery Show, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and partners are offering a number of health services to help farmers and agricultural producers remain at their physical best, Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles announced. The show, back after a year's hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is set for February 16-19, 2022, at the Kentucky Exposition Center, 937 Phillips Ln, Louisville, KY. "A healthy agriculture community is key to a thriving economy and lifestyle," Commissioner Quarles said. "The screenings and the flu and tetanus shots offered at this year's National Farm Machinery Show will help keep our farmers thriving and prospering. Farmers face physical risks everyday on the job. SB80 would require genetic test for unexplained deaths under 40 By Nancy Royden, LRC Frankfort, KY - Legislation that would require genetic testing when a young person dies inexplicably received approval Thursday from the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Senate Bill 80 is essentially an attempt not only to bring closure to families who have suffered the death of a young loved one, but as well as an effort to give them certain information that might in fact save lives," said the bill's sponsor, Sen. Phillip Wheeler, R-Pikeville. The legislation calls for the state medical examiner's office to conduct a genetic test when a postmortem examination of someone under 40 does not determine the cause of death. If the genetic test reveals a cause, coroners must note that information on the death certificate. CPD: Package thief identified and arrested By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, officers from the Columbia Police Department were dispatched to a theft at a residence on Fairground Street. Callers reported male subject was caught on their security cameras stealing a package. Officers identified the individual and were able to recover the stolen property. However, the male individual did not turn himself in, so officers signed a warrant of arrest through the County Attorney's Office. On Thursday, February 10, 2022, the individual was located and taken into custody in Taylor County by the Campbellsville Police Department. Winds will be out of the southwest this afternoon, and a Wind Advisory has been issued from 11amCT until 5pmCT, as gusts could be as high as 45mph. The National Weather Service in Louisville warns that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and weakened tree limbs could be blown down, resulting in power outages. Tonight will be cloudy, with scattered rain showers and possibly a snow shower. The overnight low will be around 29F. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Saturday will bring a slight chance of snow showers, with a high near 39F. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy and colder, with an overnight low around 18F and northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 35F and calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Sunday night will be partly cloudy, with a 20 percent chance of snow showers before midnight.
