Artist wanted to send a message of peace, no worries

By Linda Waggener

Jamie Clark Seale is the winner of the City Of Columbia sidewalk art contest.

Her artwork was beautiful but the overall message she displayed on it seems to have been what the judges focused on and put her's in first place.

She said she wanted to create a message to help people know not to worry. So she painted a lifelike sparrow and butterfly among flowers woven into the words, "consider the lilies" with the note to refer to Matthew 6:28.

The Governor issued the order to save lives, allow the economy to stay open and to open schools in the fall. This week, other states are seeing spikes in cases that have led to them to shut some businesses back down.

Limited reopening of Somerset Regional Driver Licensing Office

By Chuck Wolfe

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday announced the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Regional Driver Licensing Office in Somerset will reopen for limited services starting Wednesday, July 15.

It is part of Gov. Beshear's Healthy at Work initiative to safely reopen essential Executive Branch offices and services that were closed to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

"We are resuming some essential, in-person public services while taking care to do so in a way that protects public health," said Gov. Beshear. "Essential services include issuing, renewing and replacing operator's licenses and official identification cards for our fellow Kentuckians who depend on them for employment, travel and emergencies."

Even after the office reopens, the Governor encouraged anyone who can renew or replace credentials remotely to do so. Those whose licenses, permits or ID cards were lost or expired - or will expire - any time from March 1 through Sept. 30, 2020 and who do not require testing may apply for renewal or replacement remotely through the circuit court clerk in their county of residence. Check with the clerk as to preferred method, such as drop-off form or mail-in form. The forms can be downloaded here: https://kycourts.gov/Pages/DLreopeningplan.aspx.

Gov. Beshear also reminded Kentuckians that licenses and permits that expired March 18 through July 6, 2020 were automatically extended 90 days beyond the printed expiration date.

In-person services at the KYTC Regional Driver Licensing Office in Somerset are limited at this time to the following:

Governor's Tuesday Update

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - As of 4 p.m. July 14, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 20,223 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 576 of which were newly reported Tuesday.

"Today's report shows we are certainly in a time of escalating cases. And our actions over these next 10 days to 14 days - really through the next 30 days that we have put this face covering requirement out - are going to determine if we continue to be a leader, if we continue to be one of the best states in the country, or if we go the route of Arizona, which is now requesting giant freezer trucks because their morgues are being overrun," the Governor said. "It depends on our willingness to come together and do the right thing, and today should be just one more wake-up call that we've got to do it now."

Unfortunately, Gov. Beshear reported six new deaths Tuesday, raising the total to 635 Kentuckians lost to the virus.

The deaths reported Tuesday include a 44-year-old woman from Carter County; an 89-year-old woman from Casey County; a 65-year-old man from Fayette County; a 77-year-old man from Floyd County; an 82-year-old man from Ohio County; and 72-year-old woman from Shelby County.
