Ruth LaVerne Risen, 85, Green County, KY (1934-2020)

Ruth LaVerne Risen of Louisville, Kentucky, daughter of the late James Henry Wright and Sarah Francis Smith Wright, was born on August 10, 1934 in Green County and departed this life on Sunday, July 12, 2020. She was 85 years, 11 months, and 2 days of age.

The funeral services for Ruth LaVerne Risen will be conducted at 11amCT Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Bro. Twyman Davis officiating.

Visitation is requested from 5-8pm Wednesday and after 8am Thursday until time of the funeral service. Due to the Governor's mandate, masks will be required for the funeral and visitation.



She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church. She was also retired from Phillip-Morris after 26 years of service as a machine operator.

Survivors include two sons: Robert Wayne Risen of Waddy, Kentucky and companion, Sheree Keeling of Louisville, and Walter Wesley Simpson and his companion, Sherry Mattingly of Louisville; a daughter: Ruth Diane Rogers of Green County; two brothers and a sister-in-law: James and Ann Wright of Indiana, and Bobby Wright of Louisville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Twyman and Sue Davis of Greensburg, William Simpson, Ben Simpson, Jr., and Mary Simpson Huber all of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her husband: Robert Vernon Risen; a son: Ronnie Layne Risen on September 21, 2002; son-in-law: Carl Rogers Jr., on September 22, 2019; brothers: Charles Wright, Eugene Wright, and Tommy Wright; companion: James Simpson; and a special friend and co-worker: Hoytt Handy.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Oak Grove Cemetery Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
